Title: Can a dead game be extracted from a cartridge.
Post by: Picrodus on July 29, 2012, 06:35:54 PM
Can a gameboy game be extracted from a dead cartridge? I'm wondering because a person purchased Pokemon great collections for the gameboy but couldn't get the cartridge to run when it arrived. So can it be turned into a rom even if the cart doesn't play?  O_o http://s15.zetaboards.com/Tulunk_Village/single/?p=8251378&t=7025423 (http://s15.zetaboards.com/Tulunk_Village/single/?p=8251378&t=7025423)

It depends on how the cart is manufactured and why it's dead.

Lots of dead carts will still produce dumps when hooked to copying equipment. If it's messed up to the point that doesn't work then the chips can be manually removed from the board and dumped that way.

If the board uses globtops (or if the chip itself is damaged) then that's not an option and you're out of luck.
