Title: Mega Soft

i'm thinking of renaming the Mega Soft article to NTDEC  - as far as I can work out they were the same company, based on the same floor of the same building at least. and after 1991 they seemed to drop the Mega Soft name anyway, all their original games just credited NTDEC (or Caltron) in 92 and early 93, then Asder after that, even though they were made by the same developers. any thoughts?

Good idea. Everything I've seen seems to suggest they're one and the same as well. The games credited to NTDEC and Mega Soft even use the same Borland BGI font!

I'm guessing that Mega Soft released official games under the NTDEC but at the same time they produced some original titles so that if they got caught (which they did) they could still make money under their original games.

I think the company was always called NTDEC though - they used the NTDEC name on pirate carts from about 1988 (i think) and even one original game from 1989, Pokey. when they were developing more original games in 1991 they probably released them under "Mega Soft" to differentiate their originals from their pirates, but then just switched back to NTDEC after that. (and Caltron probably for export stuff)
though that still leaves Rex Soft as a bit of a mystery.. theres clearly a connection but I don't think the Rex games were made under NTDEC/Asder, because at least one was released with a Huang-1 chip (ie probably manufactured by Ge De Industry co.) and Asder would have used their own boards.

so maybe after Asder stopped making original famicom games (around 1995?) the development team left and formed Rex?

Yeah, but that raises a question. If that was the case then how come Asder are still around?

well i guess they stopped making Famicom games but they stayed in business doing other stuff, mostly those educational kids "laptops" that just have a low-res LCD screen built in. so they wouldn't need a game development team really.

You'd think they'd have wisened up and started using 16-bit hardware or something. :P

I think they (finally) did - look at the "Little Magician" computer under "TV Game" on their website, theres a screenshot that looks more like 32-bit or something.

plus they have that A.Smart console listed, but I can't find a single thing about it anywhere online - I'd guess its based on a similar architecture to the Little Magician, but it might just be a famiclone for all I know.
i think i will rename the article to NTDEC anyway. i'll bring in some stuff from the wikipedia article too.

I am deeply sorry to have  necropost but i found a copy of the "Little Magician" console on a Philipino game shop but sadly I am unable to purchase it as i don't live there but here is the link for anyone who is located there.
