Title: Monkey King Chinese Text
Post by: KlondikeFops on March 26, 2025, 03:47:00 PM
Hello! While I was ripping the sprites and levels from Shanghai Paradise's Monkey King a while back, I had noticed that there were some Chinese characters occasionally sprinkled through the level designs and cutscenes that aren't part of the story text. Curious as to their meaning, I attempted to use Google's Lens feature to try and extract the characters, but it can't read them. Would anyone knowledgeable in the language happen to know what they say?

Picture 1: 水帘洞 (Water Curtain Cave (https://journey-to-the-west-xiyouji.fandom.com/wiki/Water_Curtain_Cave))

Picture 2: 花果山 (Flowers and Fruit Mountain (https://journey-to-the-west-xiyouji.fandom.com/wiki/Flowers_and_Fruit_Mountain))

Picture 3: This one is strange. First, it seems to be written from right to left, reading something like 南丙門 or 南而門. But that makes no sense; the only term from Journey to the West that would fit is 南天門 (Southern Heavenly Gate (https://journey-to-the-west-xiyouji.fandom.com/wiki/Southern_Heavenly_Gate))

Picture 4: 齊天大聖 (Great Sage Equal to Heaven (https://journey-to-the-west-xiyouji.fandom.com/wiki/Qitian_Dasheng)). I don't think anybody who does not already know the story could decipher this pixel mush.
