Title: Project Plug'n'Play games that are actually ported from other systems
Post by: lancuster on March 14, 2025, 06:18:39 AM
I was prompted to create this topic by an interesting situation that I recently began to notice in bootleg games from Chinese pirates.
Here are some personal observations and findings found on the Internet:
1) Octopus / Brave Boy / Skateboard from Nice Code Software.
As it turned out, this game is an almost complete copy of the mini-game from the PC game called "Disney's The Little Mermaid II: Return to Sea Activity Centre":

What this game really lacks is the title screen, which is available in the VT03 version of the "Octopus" game. Also, replace the exit screen (button B on the controller) with a pause sprite but the pause doesn't remove objects on the screen... Well, it wouldn't hurt to insert other music. ;)
2) Germ Killer by Waixing.
It's just a clone of Shockwave Flash game "Happy Pill" by Gabriel Jensen:

I read this observation in the comments here:

3) Car Park by Waixing (later hacked by Cube Tech).
Funny fact. Chinese pirates copied one of the puzzles of the game called "Parking Lot Gridlock" from "Professor Layton and the Curious Village" for the Nintendo DS. It's noteworthy that Lisa Kudrow herself played this game along with Jennifer Aniston:

We could also play it on the VT03 console without knowing it ourselves. :D
PS. It would be great to find clean screenshots of this puzzle.
4) Aether Puzzle / Blocks World / Bubbles Puzzle / Puzzle Blocks by Nice Code Software.
Originally produced for (and credited to) Power Joy Ltd. A game similar to "Daedalian Opus" or the Gamtec game Dou Zhi Pin Pan / Wisdom Boy. The player must put the matching Tetris-like pieces in the correct slots.

Write your observations and other unnamed interesting things in this topic.

Pyramid by Cube Tech is NOT just an "Zuma Clone with egyptian style", it is an exact copy of the game Luxor by MumboJumbo

"Helli-Mission" by Waixing was inspired by an arcade game "Battle Chopper" aka "Mr. Heli" or "Mr. Heli no Daibōken":

However, the game itself is just a clone of the famous Flappy Bird.
