Post by: Barver on October 25, 2010, 11:59:47 PM
Edit: ROM download here: http://www.box.net/shared/b4t6i8scaakud6sccqai (http://www.box.net/shared/b4t6i8scaakud6sccqai)

Dumped by Azathoth with cart provided by me. See Azathoth's codes below to play it in any emulator, else it crashes.

Anyway, have fun :)

I doubt it's a prototype. If it was then how would the creators of the KoF98 pirate have obtained the music from it? Also, Ninja Megazord? I might be wrong as I haven't watched the show in ages but I think it was just called the Megazord. And who the hell is that on the Game Over screen?

BTW, the remix of the theme song suggests that this game was made before KoF98. :P

BTW, Barver the Mega Drive version of Power Rangers is completely different to the SNES version. Looking at the different versions I think it's safe to assume that they based their game off the MD version.

Yep. Same version of the Power Rangers theme as in KOF98... this must be the source!

The "round...fight!" voice is the same one in the KOF bootlegs (Edit: Not KOF, but I know it is in one of the Mega Drive bootleg fighters). And I know I've heard the little game-over jingle before-- I think it's also in the KOF98 bootleg.

So yeah. Definitely a pirate original that's never been heard of before!

The game over theme is in KoF98 as well. I'm pretty sure the theme itself was taken from another fighting game but I can't remember which. Presumably the same game that the voice samples came from.

But the fact that they reused those several times still says something. :)

Actually, I just realised that the voice samples in this game are different to the ones in KoF98. <_< The music is definitely used in both games though.

Also, despite being based off the SNES game, apart from the main theme the music is different and there's no "Round 1... go!" voices or anything in that game. BTW, I find it odd that they'd port a game that was only released in the US. Then again, Hummer Team did the same thing with the MMPR game on the SNES.

ROM out now, make sure to use Gens/GS as your emulator!

To me, the presentation looks a bit more professional than most of the other pirates of this type, although I think it's one of the first seeing as it's based off the Power Rangers.

Yeah, I think it might have something to do with the fact all the graphics are straight rips from the SNES game, while all the other shitty fighters havve a lot of cheap homemade things, namely the flat backgrounds adapted from 3D levels.

I've still got to play the SNES one to see how well of a job they did.

Edit: I just realized the BGM doesn't play at all during fights. This is the only emulator that it plays in without freezing though. Guess it still needs some work to play perfectly.

Eke cracked this, it works correctly on anything after you do this

00065D2E:6000 ; bypass a first check
00065D3A:070A ; fixes internal checksum so it matches original value

000661FC:6000 ; bypass a second check
00066208:070A ; fixes internal checksum so it matches original value

I'll add a link soon for the patched file if nobody hasn't done it already. The patch fixes the BGM issues and the garbage sprites/crashing gameplay

I noticed that Lord Zedd's stage music is the same as one of the tracks in..Either Top Fighter 2000 or KOF98. But my primary belief goes to Top Fighter. Could anyone verify this?

EDIT : Yes, I am playing this on hardware using the ROM file. Also, I've noticed a few bugs and are wondering if they're related to this. 1, characters LOVE to get stuck inside each other, and 2 the block works about as well as sticking your finger in a light socket.

I'm pretty sure it's KOF98, given that that game uses the Power Rangers theme as its title theme!

Well if KoF '98 uses Power Rangers music, then shouldn't Power Rangers itself be the first one of the lot? It's not like they're gonna make a King of Fighters ripoff and randomly put the Power Rangers theme in, and then make a ripoff of a Power Rangers game just because of that.

Yeah, I'd definitely agree that Power Rangers came before KOF '98.

Sorry to bump this old thread. Try canceling Ninja Megazard's forward dash into his Spinning Attack (HCB, C) and see what happens! This bootleg's so problematic! Ninja Megazord and Lipsyncher both use the exact same colors for Player 1 and Player 2, which means they'll appear exactly alike in Mirror Matches. Aerial attacks cannot be performed mid-jump - you have to basically press up and B or C at the same time.

But still, for some reason I really dig that VS Jingle. Good thing there's no Ivan Ooze either. Oh, and is there topic where you can show off glitches in bootleg games?
