Famicom/NES / Hi / I need help finding a song

It sounds super familiar, I feel like it's from some Japanese game, but maybe I'm entirely wrong and I just recognise it from a multicart..

BootlegGames Wiki / Nice Code Software Website?
« on: December 07, 2016, 06:03:42 PM »
I found out about Jony from some former revision of their website which had staff members listed (first names only).

And the Nature Clan thing is just the only interpretation that makes sense tbh, it was always part of the games' titles and they always featured the same characters, and I've found no record of the company ever going by that name

Other Pirates / Emulator NES for fake Wii console
« on: December 07, 2016, 09:44:17 AM »
It'll only work with similar Subor made consoles like the Lexibook one.. basically if it has an SD slot, 32-bit graphics and a Windows XP-like interface it's probably the right kind.

The Vii and Zone series etc can't use it since they have no SD slot and different hardware/firmware.

BootlegGames Wiki / Nice Code Software Website?

Their website used to be game-nc.com (they let the domain expire though), maybe you could find something on the Internet Archive.

The one thing I know about Magic Jony is that they used to (or still do?) have a staff member called Jony, so the character was probably named after him..

BTW, i think Nice Code was also called "Nature Clan" for some time.[/quote]Nature Clan was just the name of those red ball characters afaik, the company was called Nature Color at that point.

Game Boy / Super Mario DX for GBA
« on: November 25, 2016, 05:11:29 PM »
I've tried dumping these games directly through a GBASP with no success (same way I dumped the Vast Fame GBA games), I doubt a Gamecube or Wii would fare much better. The protection on these things is good.

Famicom/NES / Tower of doom
« on: November 25, 2016, 05:09:06 PM »
These wxn games were designed to be played on a Subor console with built-in emulator that supports a weird Waixing proprietary format. I wrote a program to decrypt them and convert to .nes format but it doesn't work for every game (this being an example of one it didn't work on)

But anyway the game is a bad port of Tower of Doom for the Intellivision with hacked graphics and annoying music, so if you want to play it you might as well get an Intellivision emulator and play the original.

Game Boy dumps / 2-in-1 Pokemon Gold and Silver - ROM Dumping Help?
« on: November 23, 2016, 06:31:11 PM »
ah, that might actually be a complete dump, the JP versions of Gold and Silver (which the bootleg translations are based on) are 1mb each so that's big enough to contain both of them.. drop me an email at cactusgunman@gmail.com and I can take a look at it if you like.

If the ROM is complete the issue will most likely be that emulators can't handle the multicart mapper (and potentially copy protection, the single cart releases of those translations had something like that going on)

Famicom/NES / Are FC Compact & FC Pocket are NOAC-based?
« on: November 17, 2016, 03:58:28 PM »
There are a few different clones going by those names but yeah they'll almost certainly be NOAC based. Could be some derived hardware like the VT series (especially in the handheld) but probably nothing special.

Other Pirates / Clone console

Looks like it's one of Subor's 32-bit consoles similar to the one released by Lexibook. If that's the case I think they run on 32-bit Sunplus hardware, SPG293 based on strings in the elf file.

There is support for some variants of SPG hardware in MESS/MAME at least for the Hyperscan and Vii, but I don't know if it's a compatible type & I don't think you can load up these Subor games into it as-is. Would definitely need work on the emulation side, but it's not a million miles away from being possible.

1993-1999 / New Star Electronics manual
« on: November 05, 2016, 03:05:06 PM »
on a related note, here's something interesting that came up recently - https://fugu.cafe/talks/10829
a New Star branded Famiclone, but on the built-in menu screen it's credited to "Electrical & Mechanical Department 46" which was apparently part of the Chinese military industrial complex at the time.. so I guess New Star was either a military-owned/backed enterprise or at least cooperating with them. Puts an interesting new spin on what seemed like just an average shanzhai famiclone company.

They apparently released two Famiclones and were working on a Mega Drive clone but Sega put a stop to that. https://twitter.com/anty_k/status/793453563091390465

Another interesting thing about the clone itself - it has Family Basic built in, but instead of being an all-in-one keyboard system like later clones, or even coming bundled with a New Star-produced keyboard, it actually came with a Taiwan-made Intellivision keyboard.

Game Boy dumps / Handheld Underground dumps thread
« on: November 01, 2016, 01:14:43 PM »
nah, they didn't have Zook 3 when I last looked at their store (at least not the cart, they were selling a dump at one point but I'm not paying them for that..). It was some Pokemon game. Emerald I think. The one that's a hack of Emo Cheng DX with Raichu

here's the Ruby cart:

I'm still looking for a copy of Chinese Sapphire to dump too, I tried to buy it off Sky League at one point but either they or the taobao agent fucked up my order and I ended up with some GBC Sintax game instead. (but hey that was undumped too, so at least I got *something*)

After that the only missing VF GBA games I know of are English Rockman & Crystal and that Super Robot Wars game (it has been dumped on some Chinese forum but with partially removed protection or something, I'd rather dump the original and emulate it)

and yeah that'd be cool if you could scan the LOTR manual, I'd like to see that. does it have any credits?

Game Boy dumps / Pokemon - Cock Version
« on: October 23, 2016, 07:29:49 PM »
Oh yeah I dumped this one a while back but didn't mention it outside of Twitter because I assumed the original ROM or patch would still be around somewhere. But it turns out there's no sign of it! So I have no idea who the original creator was, or where the pirates got it from. Probably someone pulled it off some forum years ago, and it's just been floating around private Chinese romsets for a while?
