CIB Megadrive pirates
« on: August 06, 2011, 06:34:06 PM »
So I recently came across the site scanlines16. A french website qhich has quite some stuff about pirates.
This article was the most interesting:
http://scanlines16.com/retro-gaming/sega-megadrive/jeux-megadrive-chinois-taiwanais-russes/#more-2031
I'm not familiar with megadrive pirates but I guess some good box pictures is still good to show :)

I hate to ask, but can someone translate the article or at least give a general summary? I can interpret the captions and that's about it.

Did Winsen publish all of the originals or something like that?

1st picture of the boxes:
The 3 on the left are from Winsen (广州市骊城工贸有限公司 or 星星科技 or 广州市天河永盛有限公司 according to the article). They got the right to produce some games for Chinese market. The quality of the box/manual seems to be good.

Then there's a list of Winsen games, this ends after the picture with Mickey. Then just a simple review of the megadrive in Russia, pretty much all the infos can be found on the videos.

Then the links pirategamemuseum and pirate game central (blog).

When you say that they got the rights, do mean from Sega? To me, it sounds a bit odd for those Chinese pirates to be officially licensed.

BTW, if I remember correctly Volumerates are actually selling that "new" Mega Drive. I'd buy one myself, but I'm willing to bet that it's a Japanese console that doesn't accept US/European carts.

The author said the Megadrive he got was freezing a lot but was regionfree.

EDIT: I don't know. Just translating the most important...

I'd imagine that MD clone has region switches though, they usually do as far as I know..
edit: actually i can't see them in any of the pics, so maybe not. unless they're on the bottom or something.

Ah, I remember this guy mentioning his website over at my blog.  He also has a FC/GB post with stuff from Waixing and Castlevania DX by Sintax.  I've seen that Wucom Legend game with DBZ art on Taobao a couple of times, but I never actually bought it.
