I have that same cart and box. There are a couple of pocketnes games and some Pokémon games, but most of the games just straight up don’t work. It does have a nice box though

That does not necessarily confirm it was made by Makon, but it does confirm that whoever made what I call the official Makon carts, sold a cart with Vietnamese Crystal. Keep in mind, Waixing used to sell other companies games, despite having their own Gameboy games

Ok, I just asked Taizou. GA097 is Vietnamese Crystal

"GA097 Pokemon Crystal is the "Vietnamese" translation AFAIK" was his quote

So, I was searching eBay and I found something pretty odd. "Pokemon Crystal Special Pikachu Edition" with the Makon ID GA097. I actually saw the art for this on a couple of multicarts, but they just had "Vietnamese Crystal" on them. The seller does not ship to the USA but for those who are curious here is the listing.

I don't know what this means, or if I should even put this in my Makon ID list. Maybe its a new game, or maybe the people who manufacture Makon carts have ties to the people who made "Vietnamese Crystal". Any info on what this is would be greatly appreciated

The Community / What happened to the rules page?
« on: May 23, 2020, 11:24:08 AM »
On the old site PGC there was a page for rules on the forums, but on this site I can only seem to find the rules for the wiki. Did the rules page get moved or something?

I recently saw this on eBay. According to the game list it contains "Donkey Kong 4" and when it begins to start relisting games it calls it "Gorilla Land 3". It is probably nothing special, maybe just Donkey Kong Land 3, but I figured I'd mention it

I noticed that a couple of my games have IDs with similar styles to the ones I have been calling "Makon IDs", and figured I'd post a picture of those. One has a GA-NNN ID instead of a GANNN ID, while the other has the weird generic IDs that appear on stuff like Pokemon Adventure and Sonic 3D Blast 5. I am still going to include IDs that don't match Makon Stuff in my spreadsheet (if they appear on Makon games/manuals/boxes) but as I said earlier, their cells will be a lighter color.

What I consider to be proper Makon IDs are: GANNN style IDs, and GBC-NNN-USA style IDs. I may consider others if I can find enough instances of them being on Makon carts to warrant being called a Makon ID

I have noticed that the ID number for a Makon games Chinese version appears to be higher than the English version

I also noticed that the ID numbers go pretty high for Makon games, and just can't imagine there being over 100 games made by them, even considering the multiple languages

Yeah, it definitely is a bit strange. The connector does look like on for a gba in the picture (though it is a little blurry) and those games do appear to be gbc titles, but the first gbc emulator for gba was, to my knowledge, Goomba (which was made in 2003, 4 years after this thing).

I found a weird flashcart thing on Ruten called a "GBC Emulator Card"

It's hard to believe that this has been going on that long (even though I was not part of it for most of its history). Since we are giving shoutouts to people who have contributed greatly to the community, I think I'll mention a couple of people who I think deserve some recognition.

Barver - He  made the Pirate Games Museum website
codeman38 - He made a lot of discoveries about trademarks and copyrights early on in the forum's lifetime
Pepper98 - She ran a Blogspot under the name Shazam, and provided scans and photos as well as videos for many bootlegs
fcgamer - He runs a WordPress that gives insight into the history of many bootleg and unlicensed game companies

Thanks to that massive hack on Nintendo (which hopefully won't hurt their business too much), we may be seeing a lot more material of the Wiki in the future

Game Boy / Makon ID Numbers (WIP)
« on: May 08, 2020, 12:28:43 AM »
Recently, I have decided to start recording IDs for Makon Soft games. I've created a spreadsheet and a file full of pictures proving that the IDs I have provided are correct. I'll attach both to this post. In this spreadsheet two rows have been greyed out: Pokemon Gold 2 and Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. Pokemon Gold 2 I greyed out for being an alternate version of Pokemon Adventure that may not even have a standalone cart release (I have not seen one). The Lord of the Rings game is greyed out since I cannot find any photos proving its existence. I also made cells containing IDs that appear to not be normal Makon Soft IDs lighter. Most of the pictures I have included are not ones I took, I'll also attach a text file that credits their owners.

If you have any photos depicting ID numbers for Makon games that I have not listed, then I would greatly appreciate it if you share them here

Other Pirates / Re: PS1/2 pirates
« on: May 01, 2020, 08:38:30 PM »
Here is my thought process:

PS1/PS2 (I am just going to refer to both as PS#) are CD based systems. That means that they have much larger games than cartridges, and are made on a medium that is a lot easier to produce than cartridges. When you consider that it would take much more time to make a PS# bootleg from the ground up than a Famicom/Mega Drive/Gameboy bootleg from the ground up, it makes a lot of sense that PS# bootlegs are pretty uncommon. It also makes sense that there are many pirate games for it, since CDs are much more available to print games on than cartridges, which saves on manufacturing costs

Game Boy / Re: Best Rich's Digimon 6 Link-Up Feature
« on: April 27, 2020, 07:51:56 PM »
You can download the ROM for it on an old thread on this site (just search "Digimon "Best Rich" and you should be able to find it). To my knowledge this is the only Best Rich product, and it is only in English. Also, the site makes it sound like the device links up to official Bandai Digimon products (most likely the old Tamagotchi-like stuff they used to sell) through the metal parts at the tip of the cartridge

Game Boy / Best Rich's Digimon 6 Link-Up Feature
« on: April 27, 2020, 02:23:31 PM »
I was looking around some old threads and saw one on "Digital Monster 6" by a company called "Best Rich". After getting the cart, I was pretty disappointed in the gameplay, but saw something cool on the old thread. Taizou had found an archived website that gave some info on the cart. Apparently the metal knob at the side of it allows it to communicate with other Digimon related products. Has anyone here been able to test/verify if that is actually something this cart can do?
