Game Boy / Re: [GBC]Have these been dumped yet?
« on: September 26, 2020, 03:48:15 PM »
I sent my copies over to taizou. They were "dumped" but don't work in emulators at the moment, so the ROMs have not been released

I guess that is another game I can add to my gallery of Makon games. Spanish Pokemon Diamond. I wonder if Makon released all their stuff in Spanish. These sorts of things surface so rarely that it can be hard to tell

Other Pirates / Re: Supervision: handheld of the less fortunate

Poor translations in licensed games were once pretty common. On NES there were countless examples of odd grammar or misspellings (Bimmy and Jimmy), but a more recent example would be the Megaman Battle Network series' notably spotty translation. For a Supervision to have an iffy translation is not that surprising. Keep in mind, almost all the games for it were made by smaller companies than the ones out in Japan. They likely did not view spending more on translation as a worthwhile investment

We're in luck. Pink Jelly just reuploaded a ton of Pepper98's old stuff

I am pretty sure there was overlap with engines between Makon and Sachen, and then there was that one company that stole Vast Fame's rpg engine (I am pretty sure that Sintax version of Beggar Prince was by them). I think they were called Tian Cai Xiao Zi. There may have been some overlap between Hitek and Waixing based on what I have heard, but I don't know much about those two. Honestly, I think that making a family tree of all the unlicensed gameboy companies could make for a good poster

Edit: I must have been tired when writing this originally, there has never been evidence of Makon and Sintax being related to my knowledge

Lots of licensed companies reuse engines and assets, so seeing unlicensed/bootleg companies reuse engines is not surprising. It is cheaper and easier to build a game based on existing assets than to build it up from the ground. Sintax/SKOB/BBD (not the same company, but use each others engines) and Makon Soft definitely were the worst offenders of just retiling games and calling it a day. Vast Fame and Gowin made something new but reused engines

Game Boy / Re: Pokemon Emerald by Sintax on ebay?

@guyzis

I already dumped this. Check my IPS files thread. Also, Sintax recycled all of their games, the gba ones were just the ones that got recycled the most

There is no such thing as a game with copy protection that cannot be cracked. I sent that ROM over to Tulunk Village because I know there are talented people on that site who can fix broken games. The fact that taizou has seen the ROM means that he'll likely attempt to crack the copy protection as well. However the process is not easy. It'll probably take a lot of time and hard work to get that ROM to work. I am grateful that they are willing to do this, since I do not have the knowledge to do that sort of thing, and have no clue where I would learn how to do it

I just noticed that the thumbnail for what appears to be that video was saved on google images. (I'll post it here). It definitely looks like the Pokemon Sapphire style Makon stuff

The Spanish and German versions were known about for many years. No other translations are known to exist. According to taizou the company that did the translations is the same one as the NGCA Vast Fame translations. He also said that the copy protection on the dump I posted of Spanish Diamond uses a different copy protection than normal, so that is why it does not work in hhugboy

You sound like you have seen footage of this game. Could you leave a link to a video of it?

Game Boy / Re: Vast fame's fire bird cheat card (info)
« on: July 19, 2020, 12:35:05 PM »
I have never seen a picture of the cartridge, but based on what I have seen from playing around with the ROM, the Fire Bird works very similar to a GB Sacker or the Magic Editor Card by Yobo. It has cheats for official games (I do not know if it has any for unlicensed ones) and uses what are called Golden Finger cheat codes. Also, if you emulate it, it will act as though it was plugged into itself

Edit: Just scrolled through the list of games it mentioned having cheats for. Shawu Story was on it, so it has cheats for at least one unlicensed game

I have heard that, but I cannot confirm that. I honestly thought that it was just something people made up a long time ago, yet managed to stay on the wiki for years. Maybe there was a video of it or something a long time ago

Note: Based on what pictures are available, I think that Harry Potter 2 cart has the Vast Fame game on it, not the BBD game
