Mega Drive/Genesis / Beggar Prince and Legend of Wukong were dumped!

Trying out BP today, seem to have come up against a bug- or possibly something else. Whenever I try to learn my first spell, the game resets and so I can't leave the first town.
Anybody got any clues? (I've got an idea of what might be going on, though...)

Thanks. I'm not sure what I was doing wrong before, but I couldn't get past the error screen. Seems to be working alright now- although it crashed a couple times before I set the save type to SRAM.

Can't seem to get this game to work- which is weird because the version of VBA I use can play lots of pirates!
Any ideas? I have VBA-M 1.8.0 SVN1086.
