Famicom/NES / Tengen Ms. Pac-Man Fixed ROM
« on: February 01, 2018, 02:38:13 PM »
This is a fixed ROM for Tengen's version of Ms. Pac-Man for NES. In most emulators, this game features broken graphics, with the scoreboard and some other garbage being duplicated onto the maze. This even happens on some actual consoles, like the Retron 5. This was SUPER easy to fix - all I had to do was copy the game's data into another ROM - so I have no idea why so many versions of the game are completely broken. Download is attached below.

@forgotusername: I can offer to extract all of the individual games, as I did before.
There's not really a point in doing so, as on these new dumps there's only two completely unique games to my knowledge (one is a bad hack of Tetris and the other an Assart variant). May as well not bother.

Here's TV Game 200-in-1, which davidstech converted for me. It sadly does not work in FCEUX. I wonder what it runs.
Thanks. Oddly enough it worked perfectly in FCEUX for me. Got all the new ROMs extracted, which I'll post eventually.

Don't know if this has been answered before, but how do you convert .bin files to .nes? I want to remove all of the unique games from the menus, but can only do so when they're in .nes format.

I never understood why these things feature music modes. These guys can barely program, let alone create decent sounding music. Also bonus points for Pac-Man in the puzzle mode

There are no Game King games with those names that I'm aware of. I have a full spreadsheet of every game ever documented. About the closest is 'Risker' but that's actually a Spy Hunter clone on GK. The games use a similar dot matrix technology for sure and are maybe programmed using the same method but they are more 'GK style' than ports.
Some of them are hacks of Game King games (I know Risk-King is a hack of Carlo Adventure Legend at the very least). I just figured the dot matrix stuff was effectively the same thing.

Famicom/NES / Gamezone II 128 in 1 - Arcade Ports
« on: January 21, 2018, 01:21:15 PM »
The funny thing about those games is that they were originally made for a bootleg arcade machine called Arcade Mania. The cabinets were sold for a standard $1000 too, which would probably make them the most overpriced Famiclones in existence. Whether they're dumped I have no idea, but I doubt they are.

Famicom/NES / "Licensed" Famiclones
« on: January 17, 2018, 03:57:03 PM »
Not sure if anyone's already pointed it out, but there's a strangely high amount of "licensed" Famiclones currently on the market, mostly a bunch of handheld games shaped like arcade machines. Often times they only include one game per system, that being the NES port of an 80s arcade game. Here are some companies off the top of my head:

DreamGEAR - Yes, * that * DreamGEAR (who are going by My Arcade now for some reason). The ones who have been shelving out Famiclones to actual retail stores for the past decade. They have the license to BurgerTime and a couple other games, and now seemingly ALL of Namco's stuff judging by this press video. All NES, as expected, with the Nintendo copyrights chopped off the title screen. Actually pretty excited for the Namco stuff, but I don't understand why the hell they're using the Pac-Man design from Pac-Man Cereal...

Basic Fun - They've released a whole bunch of arcade-shaped handhelds, some LCD-based and others NES-based. Somehow they've accumulated the licenses from Namco, Taito, Konami, Gottelib, Atari, AND Williams. How they managed to do that I have no idea.

MSI Entertainment - The only non-handhelds to my knowledge; they release AWFUL plug 'n plays, with one NES game each, designed to intentionally look like Jakks Pacific units that originally had at least ten games on them. Their business reviews sure say a lot about them as a company.

There are probably a few others, and certainly there are more to come, but these were the ones off the top of my head. You'd think by this point they could create arcade-accurate stuff for...actually, never mind. I think I'll stick to $30 NES clones over $160 arcade clones.

If it's still apart, would you be OK posting some photos of the inside and what chips you can see?
Sorry, I already put it back; but there was literally nothing in there besides a globtop chip. There were plenty of small boards connected to the main one by wires (all of which had the exact same model number on them), but they were all for buttons and connectors (power, reset, video cables, power cord). In addition there was the deceiving marking of where an SD card would go, but with no electronics even near it.

The only other technical thing I noticed was on the system, the game select menu is a larger resolution then the games (can't tell if that's the special 512x480 resolution or not). But that's all the info I can give.

Thought I'd make an update that I finally digged into the 300-in-1 thing and it does NOT have an SD card slot, just a marking of where one presumably was in development. I also got the operating number wrong (don't blame me, the text is tiny) - its VT389, something I didn't know even existed.

If its useful to anyone the full operating thing on the back says:

GB-N013-Key-VT389-1
REV:A2   2Z
2017.03.24

Wonder if GB means Game Boy. It looks nothing like Game Boy/Advance hardware, but considering all the insane stuff derived from NES hardware who knows.

I'm pretty sure Time Top still exists to some form. If you do a Google search for "time top tv game" you can find a few images of rather new-looking game systems (like this abomination). Only $616.43 on Aliexpress! What a deal!

Old thread, and someone may have touched upon this before, but I own the Time Top plug 'n play seen here. Interesting to see there's a Magical Pop'n clone out there using this hardware. Would've loved to get that one but I guess Smartball is a fair trade-off for it. Also worth mentioning that Yo-Yo Rabbit is the SHIT. It's one of, if not THE best plug 'n play knockoff I've ever played.

Another thing - those 1.8" handheld games. They HAVE to have some sort of Game King/Time Top connection. Look at the game list - Risk-King, The Wall, and King Boxing are ALL Game King titles. 2012 is actually Game King's 2003, and I know I've seen Tank on one of these before too. Judging by the newer Game King-esqe things mentioned here with Angry Birds clones and whatnot, its undoubted they're connected somehow.

Other dumps / Mystery Dump: Unknown 1.8" Handheld
« on: January 03, 2018, 08:08:59 PM »
The 1.8" handhelds are NES-based to some degree. You can see NES games running off a 1.8" handheld here, and some other bizarre format with the same games here. Oh, and I'm pretty sure they're made by Time Top but I could be wrong on that.

Funny thing I just noticed: Magic Jony is a real person who directed and designed his own game. Talk about self-centered...

(Jesus its hard to upload pictures on here. Oh, and to see the Nice Code credit screens press the buttons Up, Down, Up, Left, Right, Left, B on the title screen. Doesn't work every time but is pretty cool regardless)

Yes, that's what I mean by fake cart.

The Lexibook console with ROMs inside sounds awesome, any chance you could send me the suspected VT368 ones? If not don't worry as I'll probably get one myself out of curiosity in the inevitable post Christmas sale on those sorts of things.
What I'm trying to say is I can't get the SD card out without potentially breaking the system, which I don't want to do as its a really nice lineup of games. I should also add the circuit board had text printed on it, and in addition to saying the operating system is VT368, there's a SD card marking on the back. But that's as much info as I can give.

I think i may have heard of it. Why would they load roms on a microSD though? Lazy shortcut? Additionally, which console is this? Is it this one: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Lexibook-JG7800-300-Retro-Console/dp/B072F6ZWJP ?
Yes that's the console, but...that listing says it has an SD card, even though its hidden in the plastic...I guess the European version has it accessible? Mine came from a Toys R Us in the US, so I guess the American version hid it since it would undoubtedly be used to load NES games. It also was WAY cheaper; the UK version is $25 more. Weird.
