Probably not important, but the multicolor things with eyes in the title screen of "Hallihoo" look exactly like the pieces used in "News", an obscure Korean arcade game which itself probably stole those graphics from some other game.
theyre from Puyo Puyo originally, there's a few on the title screen of Agile Mice too.

Finally, have you guys realized that if you change the word "aether" to "space", suddenly all these game names have sense? :P
yeah, i noticed that. :D that must have been what they were going for.
oh i noticed something weird on the box - you know how some of the games are listed with the wrong names on the menu? well title screens for a few of those wrong games actually appear in the screenshots on the back (except Greedy, which has the same name but an entirely different title screen):
only Kong King has a gameplay screenshot, but its clearly the same game as Forest Kid, just with different graphics. so I guess all those wrong names were actually alternate versions of the same games, and for some reason they either switched them out at the last minute or whoever was compiling the thing just included the wrong versions.- Title: Overmax 151 in 1
Post by: codeman38 on July 06, 2011, 11:04:04 PM- "Lemon Brat" would make a great name for a rock band. And yes, that is a blatant hack of "Thin Ice" for Intellivision.
Also, a lot of these use fonts from DeluxePaint, for some reason. I used that program way too much as a kid... I probably ought to create a Wiki entry for it, given how often it gets used in bootleg and legit games alike...
"Girl" is also known as "Way Out". There is fan art of that character on the title screen from one Japanese bootleg game collector. I am seriously not making this up-- witness Wayko-san and Ouko-chan (http://www14.plala.or.jp/you2hp/shouhaou/shouhaou_016.html).- Title: Overmax 151 in 1
Post by: taizou on July 06, 2011, 11:15:51 PM- hey you're not the first to think Nice Code game titles would make good band names. :D http://kids.mywoot.net/past/details.php?id=6 (http://kids.mywoot.net/past/details.php?id=6)
i'm amazed they still use Deluxe Paint - these were made in, what, 2006?- Title: Overmax 151 in 1
Post by: codeman38 on July 06, 2011, 11:23:29 PM- Hah, yes, "Devildom Doom" would also make a great band name.
On another note, "Jig Chick" is interesting because that one's also been released in a VT168 version by... JungleTac! Granted, we already knew that Nice Code developed some games for Jungle, but still, I haven't ever seen it so blatant.
"Puppet Show" is "Fling Ball" on the DreamGear 75.- Title: Overmax 151 in 1
Post by: taizou on July 06, 2011, 11:33:39 PM- Yeah, I noticed that - I've been trying to get hold of this one Jungletac handheld (http://cybertoy.ru/joom/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=17&Itemid=2) with that game on it among others but it's proving pretty damned elusive.
also i'm thinking the title screen of Curly Monkey 2 might be stolen from somewhere, if only because the monkey on the title screen bears pretty much no resemblance to the in-game sprite.- Title: Overmax 151 in 1
Post by: codeman38 on July 06, 2011, 11:38:53 PM- I love how on "Dominoes", they spell it right and wrong on the same title screen.
I know I've seen the characters from the second "Enchanter" and from "Invincible Girl" before, but I cannot place them for the life of me.- Title: Overmax 151 in 1
Post by: taizou on July 06, 2011, 11:49:51 PM- yeah, Invincible Girl does look familiar, now you mention it. not sure about Enchanter (2)'s main character but the enemies certainly ring a bell.
oh and that console that i just said was "pretty damned elusive", i just realised the distributor i just linked to sells it on their own damn website and they do international shipping. i'm smart.- Title: Overmax 151 in 1
Post by: codeman38 on July 07, 2011, 12:07:49 AM- Interesting that Metro Mania is still credited to "Power Joy Ltd." Connections between Trump Grand and Qi Sheng Long?
Edit: Same for Lightning, too, for that matter. And a whole bunch of other games in the latter half.- Title: Overmax 151 in 1
Post by: taizou on July 07, 2011, 12:24:38 AM- I think its probably Nice Code being lazy/forgetting to take the copyrights out more than anything else. There's a screenshot of Twin Fish on their own site with a Power Joy copyright in it.

Post by: codeman38 on July 07, 2011, 12:24:40 AM- Is it just me, or is "Corsair" spelled "Corsoir" on the title screen? I mean, the second "o" looks different, but... it's still very much an "o".
Edit: Yep, that's exactly what an "o" looks like in Brush Script. Then again, this is the company that once spelled "racing" as "rucing", so I shouldn't be too surprised.- Title: Overmax 151 in 1

Mind you, I think making up ridiculous band names is the one good thing that's come out of most of these games. Incidentally, my suggestion would be Captain Engineer of the Reversi Squad.
Also, it's hard to tell but I think the sign on Close Quarter's title screen says "Htalihoo" or something, presumably supposed to say Hallihoo.
And I just realised that the bloke in Hunter Alone looks suspiciously similar to Marco from Metal Slug with green hair for some odd reason.
BTW, I just realised that the logs in the Frogger clone are taken straight out of the original game. Is it a hack of the plug 'n play version or something?
And to me, Thunder Man looks a lot like Batman on the NES. (In fact, the main character looks like a sprite edit of the Dark Knight himself)- Title: Overmax 151 in 1
Post by: iniche on July 08, 2011, 07:28:14 PM- About that Commando game, what are the similarities to Contra?
- Title: Overmax 151 in 1
Post by: taizou on July 08, 2011, 07:37:46 PM- well it has similar gameplay and the same way of displaying remaining lives but its not particularly good as far as Contra clones go, you can't shoot diagonally and I don't think there are any powerups.

Post by: iniche on July 08, 2011, 07:41:52 PM- 1-hit deaths? Roll-up ball jump? End-level bosses?
:P- Title: Overmax 151 in 1
Post by: taizou on July 08, 2011, 07:46:24 PM- yes, yes and not sure (but probably, i'll check)
just played through the first level quickly - there are actually powerups but theyre just sitting in preset points in the level (theres only one in level 1, on a building), they don't float through the air or anything. level 1 doesnt have a boss so i'm assuming others don't either, maybe there's a final one though. and there are basically no platform elements thus far, some enemies stand on buildings but your character can't jump onto them.
edit: there is a bit of platformy stuff in level 2.
edit2: and a boss! but it is the final boss. so yeah only two stages. brilliant.

Post by: Awesome Panda on July 10, 2011, 06:40:47 PM- I just realised something, some of the graphics in Bubbles are stolen from Little Nemo.

Post by: taizou on July 10, 2011, 07:09:19 PM- just noticed something odd and kinda related:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JMzHTR7FL7I (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JMzHTR7FL7I)
thats a video of the "Factor 5" famiclone by Yobo/'Qi Sheng Long, in addition to playing standard NES games it's also compatible with "G Factor" cartridges which are really VT03 OneBus carts in 72pin NES format. (the FC3plus is also compatible with those carts, and I guess the Generation NEX might be too?)
I'm not sure if they ever released any other carts, but the pack-in has Aether Mission, Bomb Kid & Assault Force which are all on the 151 in 1, plus Hot Gun, a lightgun game, and Super Motor Race which is kind of interesting - it has a lot in common with Shenzhen Niutai's 16bit racing games, the text on the select screen is identical and even in the same font for example. not sure what's going on there.- Title: Overmax 151 in 1
Post by: FlanDo on August 13, 2011, 07:10:20 PM- Oh yeah. Surprising how many pirate sites are out there though. Think they'd get caught by now. And this one tells us to judge a game by the coolness of its name. How...original.

Lol I wouldn't listen to cookie labyrinth if it was a band
Looks like someone hasn't been reading the rules. Don't bump topics unless you have a good reason for it.
Besides the point, Cookies Labyrinth would be an awesome name for a band.
