Other Pirates / Game King Stuff
« on: May 28, 2017, 11:38:33 AM »
Yeah, I have most of these games, I think.  Too bad I need to go to bed now, otherwise I would take a look at my records and see just how many GK games I have.
On another note, there are several different print runs of the Game King multicarts, and even some Korean releases!

Welcome to fcgamer's house of goods for sale.  As a few general rules, payments to be made through Paypal, prices can be set to discount when buying a lot of items, shipping cost for 1 - 2 cartridges is $5.50 worldwide.

Time to reclaim my apartment from this stuff, currently it looks like a used media shop!!!

Questions, please ask.  Thanks!

OTHER:

Summon Night 4 Memory Card - $25

This one looks to be unopened / unused, though I cannot confirm this either.  It is a PS2 Memory card based around Summon Night 4.  There is some tape on the back bottom of the box, not sure if that is supposed to be there or not.

Sega Saturn Pro Action Replay (by Honest) - $25

Spoiler: click to toggle

Honest was a local company to me, they specialized in making game accessories, joypads, etc.  Their most famous product was a 3 in 1 arcade-style joystick, which is now quite difficult to find, so I have to wonder just how popular their products were, as a whole, back in the day.

This one is a pro action replay cheat cartridge for the Sega Saturn.  The box is beat up, also has the manual and bubble wrap.

Golden Finger P.S. Game Blaster - $25

Spoiler: click to toggle

Chinese version cheat device for the Playstation.  It comes boxed, with manual in both English and Chinese.  Manufactured by a company called Shin Hwang.  Box is a bit beat up.

Game King 2 + 2 game cartridges (11 games total) - $30

Here I have another one of those infamous Timetop Game King machines for sale.  As well as the three built-in games, this package also includes two four-in-1 multicarts.  The screen to the unit has some wear but everything works fine, volume also checks, etc.  Nothing wrong that would stop gaming from happening.

Now for the backstory:

In the early 2000s, Game King initially became discovered in the West by some folks on the Digital Press forums.  People became curious about it, since the game carts look quite similar to Game Boy carts, and the games themselves are all clones of popular NES titles.  I like to think of it as NES meets the Atari 2600, haha.

About five years ago I could find Game King products everywhere, as it was marketed more as a child's toy than as a serious video game machine.  When originally sold, each unit had three built in games, as well as one multicart.  Most shops didn't even seem to be selling the additional cartridges, but for those that did, carts were selling for around $5, and machines for around $15 - $20, at the local shops.

Then around 2014, things dried up, I think the stores probably just saw that the market wasn't there anymore, so they just took the machines off the shelves and threw them in the back, or sent them back to the company, or whatever.  Now I never see new Game King products here, which sucks since I also collect this stuff and wished I had a few brand new units in my personal collection.

PVP Pocket 3 - $25

Portable game machine, contains Famicom / NES games built directly into the machine, as well as in the small cartridge that comes with.  The machine works from being plugged in, or with a battery like the one in picture three.  Due to regulations here, I am not allowed to send the battery with the package, but these are the specs you need to get it running.

Sport Feel Tennis Plug n Play - $30

This one is sealed.  It is a plug n play machine from Jungle Tac.  The games on here are original programmed games.  Some of the programmers from this company originally worked at Waixing, known for its NES ports of popular franchises.

Old thread I guess, but just to clear things up, I own this on a real cart, and I've always had this menu pop up when using it on real hardware (NES + adapter).

Yeah, it's probably some cultural thing.  I just learned the other day, while helping my good friend's daughter hang the "lucky poetry" over the door to his brother's house, that the Chinese word "Yiqian men" (literally thousand doors) = "lots and lots of families" in aforementioned context.  So that is something a bit tricky, double meanings are huge, also non literal meanings / translations abound, etc.

Really cool stuff!  I guess these were found on a multicart you have?  If you find another,I'd love to have these too.

I have this one on cart, got it a long time ago.

If you want to sell yours / your box, I'd love to have that one in my collection.  Yeah, there are still some things I am keeping ;)

SKOB (actually Super Huge Dragon) also made cheat cards, sadly I missed out on one of those by minutes, a few years back.

I also am not a big fan of the new Russian Mega Drive titles, as they just seem "cheap" to me, and they just remind me of the big level of "repros" moving into these niche markets, ugh.  I can appreciate stuff like the Angry Birds ports for Famicom though, as it is something new and neat seeing on a machine so old.

Otherwise, I honestly don't think we are anywhere near the end, when it comes to the unlicensed / bootleg stuff.

For instance, has anyone EVER seen a copy of Chinese Chess 2 for Famicom?  I saw a few screenshots in a magazine, but that was all I ever saw.  There are a few titles of similar status.

With Game Boy stuff we are really far away from documenting it all.  I collect for it and see it as the next best platform for unlicensed stuff, after Famicom.  Take Sintax, for example.  I have a ridiculous number of their games, maybe 50 - 60 or so, but no where near all of them, and there are so many that are simply unknown, undocumented.

There is still a lot of stuff to be found, my friend, but finding it...that is just a totally different story.

Either way, you are my hero, glad to see you back :)

It is an interesting blog; however, it would be nice to mention how some of the items have been confirmed.
Sorry, but what do you mean by items?

Could you please give an example from the blog?

My bad english doesn't help there.
My friend, I've been telling you for years, your English is perfect ;)

What I mean are things such as this:  "Releasing mostly pirates copies of official games but hacks as well. Super Bros. 7 (Grand Dad as people call it) and Super Bros. 8 are both confirmed to originate from JY. They possibly made some other on the Mario line but I can't confirm any more than these two at the moment."

You say that the games are confirmed to have originated from JY, but if I were to critique the piece, this information was made available by whom?  Although I assume you mean it was confirmed by Mr. Hummer himself, without telling us how this information was confirmed or where the information came from, it makes it fall more into a hearsay category, sort of like how several websites are saying that the original version of Terrifying 911 was in English (no, the original was in Chinese), etc.  Do you know what I mean?

I can understand if you don't want to get into specifics to protect your sources from everyday readers, but something such as "A former programmer at JY company said..." is a lot better than  just saying that is has been confirmed, without showing evidence to that point.  This is of course just my opinion though, and since I was a literary major in the university, maybe I just have expectations for things like this.

Otherwise, it looks great!  I really enjoyed reading the articles you've written so far, and if there is anyway I can help, please let me know.

Does anyone have a complete list of unlicensed Mega Drive / Genesis games?  Preferable if companies were marked, so that I could nix the crappy modern Russian stuff.
