Title: SNES what?!?
Post by: liHard on July 07, 2012, 04:44:32 PM
Anyone seen a clone like this?

Late last year when I bought this from China I hadn't seen any SNES clones in a genuine looking shell in the interwebs, so I didn't suspect anything.

But a few days ago when I opened it, it was clear it wasn't genuine. Maybe its a small batch of clones that didn't sell because of a too high price or something.

Here are two pics of the shell, which look pretty damn convincing to me. The text on the power and reset aren't
straight tough. Noticed that only after opening it.

Maybe somebody here has a better info on this.

I think I remember these showing up somewhere before.. I forget where, though. It seems to copy all the details of the original so closely - logos and all - that I'd class it a counterfeit rather than just a standard clone, it seems like they were really trying to pass it off as the real thing. I really don't know anything about it though - I'm not even sure if it's an old (90s) clone or a modern one from Qi Sheng Long or the like.

Wow, thanks for the info. And yes it could be classified as a counterfeit as they've tried to make it as genuine looking as possible with a legit looking serial number.

It even has the expansion port on the bottom, but don't know if it works.

One thing is for sure, the plastic on this one is better on at least one aspect. It hasn't yellowed, unlike some =D

Never seen a spam post like this before. Somewhat valid post, only it has nothing to do with any conversation in this thread..

it's a commonish spambot tactic lately - they'll copy a legitimate post from somewhere else, then post it somewhere vaguely relevant.  the idea is if their post seems legit it'll get them through any preapproval process (especially if the approval system only shows their single post out of context, so the staff member checking doesn't realise it has no relation to the rest of the thread) and they'll be free to come back and post genuine spam later.

(incidentally this particular post came from Yahoo Answers, from a question titled "Final Fantasy 3 SNES or Final Fantasy 7 PS1?" - presumably the bot picked up on the keyword "SNES" in the title of this thread)

 That's some spambot we got here! Dunno why people would bother with it to search SNES and copy the same post, due to the possibilities of it not being relevant. (sorta like taizou said, but what I'm saying is that nobody should think it'd work well!)
Also, put it in the banned section or something, this is an historical moment of the most failed spam of all time! :P
