Discussion Center / Happy Birthday Thread
« on: May 01, 2014, 02:40:03 AM »
(Posting early in the day so the time may end up saying it's April 30th to a few people. I GUARANTEE IT IS MAY 1ST HERE.)

Woooh! It's my birthday today! *does a Kermit flail*

It's been going great so far, and I hope it stays that way!

I've always wondered about that strange translated version that has been floating around the internet. It's quite amusing, and I also find it pretty neat that they put in the extra effort to redo the voices as well.
Well, except for Rulue/Lulu, but Compile didn't give her a voice until a little later (see Puyo Puyo CD), so the "bootleg" English version didn't give her a voice either.

Just for the hell of it, here's a comparison that I found of the official Japanese voices and the "bootleg" English ones (and shows the name changes).

The "bootleg" voices are filled with so much ham and cheese it's hilarious.

Wonderful Wide Web / Browser poll

My Firefox updates itself, so I have the newest version. Well, in a sense; I get notifications if my Firefox is outdated, and I follow through with the update notifications it gives me.

Other Pirates / Puyo Puyo English "Bootleg" for the arcades

(Posting here because it has been labeled both with and without "bootleg" in the rom. Feel free to move this topic if it isn't a bootleg.)

If there is a bootleg port that the Puyo Puyo fandom knows well, it is this one. While there were name changes, hilariously bad dubbing for the little voice clips the characters had, and dialog changes that range from being somewhat accurate to the original and some way off the charts, the gameplay and non-text graphics remained unchanged (aside from Harpy's dress turning to black and her loss of wings in her transition to Dark Elf). Because of this, it was the CLOSEST of ports compared to the original, as opposed to the more well known Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine and Kirby's Avalanche.

The funny thing is, when an official English release of Minna da Puyo Puyo/Puyo Pop was released, the name "Dark Prince" stuck as Satan's dub name- to avoid religious issues, I'd assume, since he was the only one to get a name change. That, and with the fact that there are two versions of the ROM, one having "bootleg" in the title while the other doesn't, makes me wonder if the port isn't really a bootleg, but maybe official... the credits are too vague to say if it is or not.

Still, it's an oddity that is worth playing at least once for the silly changes this port offers.

This cropped screencap from the port pretty much sums my opinions of it up.

The Super Mario Wonderful World cart with the goat on it!
*Chuckles* That beautiful cart art... it looks like Mario took a trip to Disneyland!

It would be interesting if the game had elements from that art.

Also, I think the thing with the member numbers was from me deleting spam accounts.
Sounds about right... I figured it was something like that.

Oh, and with that bump rule... It's a little hard to post here... with most of the threads' last posts dating back to 2013. In that vein... I accidentally posted in one of those threads. It was an opinion topic so I'm not sure if I broke the rule or not... I hope I didn't mess up already...  :faint:

It doesn't help that the other forum I've been frequenting doesn't have as strict of necroposting rules...

Pirate Talk / Pirate ports you'd LOVE to see

Madou Monogatari... for the GB. Preferably by Vast Fame. Seeing either the normal or SNES style is fine with me...

Likewise, I'd like to see a port of that poorly translated Puyo Puyo "bootleg" (in quotes because if it is is up for debate... so if it is, BOOTLEGCEPTION) English version for the NES.

To make things more interesting, both have TERRIBLE translations, and have slight character design changes.

EDIT: Sorry for the bump... I should check the dates... some forums aren't so strict on this rule...

Hello there! While I have just now introduced myself, I have been lurking the forums for a year... or two... I've lost count.

Pirated games have struck my interest for a while now, especially the ones that have a lot of effort put into them, almost to the point where it is impossible to see the base game.

Outside of them, I have a love for corrupted games. A screenshot of one of the corruptions I have come across is what my avatar is there. *Points left*

As for game series of interest? I like the classics, such as Mario, Sonic, Dragon Quest, and Pokemon, but I can dive into some of the obscure stuff as well, like Kadume Monster/Lil' Monster (not to be confused with the movie with a similar name), and Puyo Puyo (The game I corrupted to make the avatar).

Oh, and my birthday is coming up soon, so I can't wait for that!

I'll be sure to enjoy my stay!

EDIT: It says that there are 511 members... but yet, I'm member 589... are those 78 members not on that member list banned members? Like if I was banned, the number would drop to 510? Not that I want to get banned, and I'm only curious.
