Title: Super Mario Party (NES)
Post by: Tansut on August 03, 2011, 04:38:37 PM
Hey guys,

I have a pirate NES game I bought in the late, late 90's off of eBay called "Super Mario Party".  I'm really new to actually knowing anything about this stuff that I'm buying, I just love the idea of playing these awesome hacks and what not, but I was really curious about this one.  Has anyone come across it before?

It's basically the NES version of Super Mario All-Stars.  It has Super Marios 1-3, Lost Levels, and if I remember correctly even the arcade Mario Bros. game.  They're all the NES versions that you pick from a simple menu, but I've never seen it before or since the copy I got.

Any info on it?  If you guys are really interested I can dig it out of my old room at my parents place and take a picture of it, but only if there's a legitimate interest because that would require some legitimate effort.  :-P

If this is the wrong subforum for this, I apologize.  I really don't know when it was made.  Thanks for reading!

I might be thinking of something else, but isn't this a 10-in-1 multicart that has a few other random games and a couple of hacks? Either way, you're one lucky bugger for owning this.

Huh, never heard of that one before. Like Cheetah said, you're pretty lucky.

Also moving this out of the subforum, next time if you're not sure of the timeline, you can just place it in the main forum.

Ahh, okay.  I'll be sure to do that if I create another topic like this.  Thanks!

As for the game itself, I THINK it's only the Mario games, but it's probably been around a decade since I've played it so I could be forgetting things.

I'm visiting my parents this weekend though and if I get a chance and am able I'll try and dig it out for a picture.  If I kept my NES games in alphabetical order then it shouldn't be too hard to find, but if I didn't then it might take some digging to find.

Odd, the only NES pirates I'm aware of are multicarts by Supervision, Goldengame and NTDEC.

Yup, I have that as well as Super Mario 4 (the Armadillo game) on NES carts.  I got that one around the same time, too, so I've had them since probably like...'99?

Edit: I'll grab a pic of both, because if I find one I'll find the other as well.

I have Super Mario Family in a NES cart, I think Super Mario Party is an earlier version of that. Family has SMB "4" (Armadillo hack), SMB3, SMB2J, SMB2US (those are actually named "American version" and "Japanese version" on the label too, whoever made that must have known their stuff. even though the menu just calls them something like Golden Mario and Wonderful Mario), SMB1, Mario Bros, "Baby Mario" (Bokutte Upa), Dr Mario and then for some reason, Dynamite Bowl and Mickey Mouse.

Better that than those horrible edutainment "games" with the Mario branding.

Yeah true. i mean the absolute best case scenario would have been, I guess, the full version of Hummer's Super Mario World plus Somari. :D but neither of those had even been made when this cart was released.

Yeah true. i mean the absolute best case scenario would have been, I guess, the full version of Hummer's Super Mario World plus Somari. :D but neither of those had even been made when this cart was released.[/quote]Meh, I personally think it's better off without Somari. Incidentally, I consider myself lucky not to own that game, mainly because the only enjoyment I'd get out of it is smashing the cartridge to pieces.

Anyway, the multicart itself reminds me of the Rockman 6-in-1, which is a pretty rare cart itself. It's a pity not more pirates tried to make themed multis of various franchises.

BTW, if I wanted a Mario multicart it'd be something like this:
1. Super Mario Bros.
2. Super Mario Bros. 2 JP
3. Super Mario Bros. 2 USA
4. Super Mario Bros. 3
5. Donkey Kong
6. Donkey Kong Jr.
7. Donkey Kong 3
8. Mario Bros.
9. Dr. Mario
10. Super Mario World
11. Mario & Yoshi
12. Yoshi's Cookie
13. Dian Shi Ma Li

:P

Somari is alright I think. If you can use savestates anyway. i mean it's certainly not Hummer's best platformer, but it was their first one I guess.
and i'd just want a multicart with like 100 weird Japanese SMB hacks on it.

I can't get pass level 1 of Somari so I know what you're talking about, Cheetah D:
BTW, why would you put DK3 in a Mario multi? That game is starred by that pesky gardener called Stanley ¬_¬
Title: Super Mario Party (NES)
Post by: Awesome Panda on August 03, 2011, 06:39:31 PM
Well I could probably beat Somari without save states, but it's such a bad port it's not even worth that quite frankly. If I wanted to play an 8-bit adaptation of Sonic the Hedgehog, I'd play the Game Gear version. <_< Rant over. :P

Also, Donkey Kong 3 may not be as good as the first 2 and Mario isn't in it, but blame Nintendo for tying it to those games in the first place. Then again, Tennis has Mario in it.

Meh, it's not much of a problem for me without savestates. (but fuck you Labrynith Zone Act 3 >: )

But yeah, on topic now, I want to see pictures of those carts.

left is the now empty NES cart shell, right is the famicom cart i made using the case from a broken multicart (which i snapped trying to open it, note the red electrical tape. im a class act) because i couldn't get the damn thing to work in NES form.

Wow, Its funny yet unsurprising that the NES one just has a Famicom Size sticker.. xD Looking very ghetto there, good on ya pirates. But they're nice quality carts, I can tell just by looking at the yellow one that it's less flimsy than some Ive come accross in my life.. The only thing that could improve it would be NES SMW :p

A little off-topic rant, but Speaking of that game I found a way without cheats codes to make Mario jump a -little- better. As you run and jump, let go of the directional pad but keep holding B - Mario will keep his momentum for about half of the jump :) (Its kinda similar to doing a 'Sonic Boom') Figuring this out was an amazing thing, for me, because now I can beat the game free of cheat codes!

Oh wow!  That's basically the same thing as mine, though I know it's not a 10-in-1.  I'd remember Baby Mario and Mickey Mouse and such being on there.

I'm still unclear how rare these things are, like if current piraters still are making cartridges with full collections like this. I know I've seen lots of multicarts that have a lot of Mario games on them, but I forget if it's usually the full official collection of games or just a couple of them and then a bunch of hacks. The Rockman collection cart though I know I've seen at least a few variations of.

I think the only Mario multis being made at the moment are just full of hacks, maybe with one official game along with them (probably 3). I've never seen a recent one with SMB2J anyway. Someone should get onto YH or whoever's making terrible multicarts these days, there's an untapped market there :D

Funnily enough I saw this posted over at Famicom World; a NES Super Mario Family cart is up on eBay.

Is it really worth that much, though?

I'm not sure, TBH. Sellers on eBay typically inflate their prices by about 10 times what it's worth because they figure some gullible twit will end up buying it regardless. <_<

That said, it is worth a lot more than most multicarts I'm aware of.

Post by: Barver on August 06, 2011, 05:31:33 AM
Haha, no it's not worth THAT price I can say that. I've seen it go up a couple of times and I think it at most makes around maybe $60 or so. If you started it at like $0.99 you'd likely get enough bidders to put it up somewhere there, maybe further. But as far as it ever outright selling at $150, I'm pretty sure no.

Lots of items that people perceive as rare usually only can have their true prices shown when the auction starts low and it's up to the bidders to just show how popular it is by bidding. Even going the "make and offer" route still show that guys thinks he can get at least $100, which no multicart is worth IMO, not even the elusive 45in1 with the full SMW from Hummer :P

$150? Is there no shame these days? I've felt guilty for selling NES games for $20 before :x Collectors items are cool and all, but.. Emulation makes it pointless to waste THAT much. Wonder if anyone will be gullible enough to fork out that much? Hopefully not.

I am, like, sorely tempted to reassemble my NES Mario Family and sell it now. i'll just start it cheap and see where the madness takes it. i mean if someone wants to pay $150 for it, who am I to stop them? O:

$500 for a Sachen cart though?
.. wow.
the crazy thing is I bet the Fami versions don't sell for even 1/10 of that. like how NES Caltron 6 in 1 sells for $100 or so but I got the Fami Asder 20 in 1, which is way rarer and has all those games and more, for something like $10-20.

The famicom versions don't.  Right now there a cart of Locksmith on Ebay that's currently at $25.  It's only if it's an adult game where the price would pick up, possibly from all the most-likely virgin gamers who play NES games.  Just look at Ebay now and you'll find everything no lower than $300.

Heh, I'd try that with the 150-in-1 I own but I doubt Famicom carts would bring up such a ridiculous bid.

Not meaning to push this even further off topic, but I was recently watching that really common 76 in 1 famicom cart, and just by bids alone it got up to ~70 US dollars.. I think the starting bid was like 5 dollars or something. funny thing is, I've seen the same cartridge go from an Asia based seller for about 20 bucks. :X

Silly collectors.

All the games in the super mario family multicart have been dumped separately already.
