Title: How Did Gouder Co./Someri Team/whatever Extract Graphics From Famicom/NES Titles?
Post by: Awesome Panda on August 30, 2010, 07:33:50 PM
One thing I just realised is that Street Fighter IV rips graphics directly from the ROM of Shatterhand, seeing as there's a Natsume copyright in there. However, Kart Fighter, which takes graphics from Little Nemo: The Dream Master, appears to use screenshots from the game instead, as shown by this page (http://torp.110mb.com/gamekartfighter.html). No idea what's up with that, especially seeing as Kart Fighter came out after SFIV.

it's more likely they got Shatterhand on cartridge with EPROMs so they just dumped the CHR eprom then reused graphics. And for Little Nemo, it's porbably that the only cartridge they could find was a globtop cart so they couldn't dump it.
So to copy graphics they needed to take picture.

Makes sense. One thing I don't get though, and apologies for going somewhat off-topic. If they were based in Taiwan, then why did they get Shatterhand as opposed to Solbrain, (the Japanese release of it) seeing as the latter didn't have the Natsume copyright?

The Natsume logo is still in Solbrain's ROM though, even if its not displayed anywhere (or maybe it's just in the ending?). and there are a few differences between the same graphics bank in Solbrain and Shatterhand, SFIV's version seems to be based on Solbrain.
btw i noticed some odd things in Shatterhand/Solbrain while I was looking into this. in the US version there are complete small and medium sized Natsume logos in that graphics bank, as well as a huge one in the next, none of which are used anywhere in the game. in the Japanese version most of the medium and one letter of the small is overwritten with graphics for the "area complete" screen from the fairground level (its more generic in the US version) but parts of the logos still remain. which seems to indicate the US version came first after all, and it only had the Solbrain licensed tacked onto it for the Japanese release. but anyway. thats nothing to do with pirates. so yeah!

back on topic (ish), personally I always thought it was strange that Final Fight 3 is based on the US version, for the same reason. And the US beta, at that. Same goes for Donkey Kong Country 4, only without the beta part.

i'd imagine they just used a copier. no region problems there. (except with PAL games, sometimes)

Do you have any proof of Yuu Yuu Final = Hummer Team ?

well there are leftover bits of some kind of "TEAM" logo in the Chinese version. it uses the same font as Tekken 2 and there are even some parts of Tekken's lifebar still in there that Yuu Yuu doesnt use.

Also, it uses the copyright graphics from Shisen Mahjong 2, which reuses music from Jing Ke Xin Zhuan which had its music reused in AV Bishoujo Senshi Girl Fighting which is by Someri Team. :faint:

yeah Tekken was released in 1996, it was on this 96 multi for example: http://club.nate.com/cindex8/535/teken/15351116/album/1/JY-094(2).jpg (http://club.nate.com/cindex8/535/teken/15351116/album/1/JY-094(2).jpg)
& actually those same lifebar graphics (and font etc) are in Garou Densetsu Special, which seems to have a *lot* in common with Tekken, and at least one version of that was released by Ge De Industry (with the Huang 1 chip). though it was also re-released by NT.

Taizou: The Natsume logo is not in Solbrain's ending. I played it through, and it says (c) Angel 1991 at the ending.
And to how they got the graphics... you already said it.

I just realised something. If Yuu Yuu Hakusho Final was by EHY then wouldn't the translation be horribly butchered? (i.e. "Toy Sotry" (sic))
