Title: Game Gear Bootlegs
Post by: ThunderBlastMan on July 23, 2011, 12:57:27 PM
I was wondering if there are any gamegear bootlegs out there. if you can find any of them post them here. they can either be multicarts, or an unlicenced game but not carts of licenced games. here are some multicarts i found.

The only pirate original I'm aware of is Jang Pung II, a pirated port of Street Fighter II. A fair few multicarts were made for the system, but I've never been able to play one myself and the only ones I've seen were the pics you just posted and on Youtube. :\

Someone has actually demoed that first multicart on YouTube, incidentally:

It's from the Da...something...corporation in Taiwan. (Why does the second character have to be so blurry I can't identify the radical? >_> )

Also, I think that link that SuperSonicDude just put up only ships to Argentina.

BTW, there's also this 19-in-1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=urtBCnadelo) cartridge which seems to mainly include Sega SG-1000 games, including Dr. Hello for some odd reason.

I translated it and it said SHIPMENTS ARE MADE WITHIN DIRECTS MAIL BY ARGENTINE . so i don't know if it goes worldwide by Argentine or only to Argentine

Yup, the bloke only mentions shipping to Argentina, and no word of shipping the game to other countries.

Yeah, sometimes shipments can only ship to one country.
Anyway here's another one I found

I've own a few that are just SMS/SG-1000 multi-carts, others that are GG multi-carts.

Although I might be completely mistaken, other than a few unlicensed Korean titles for GG/SMS there weren't any original unlicensed titles. Innovation was supposed to release some of those titles in the US but like 99% of Innovation's stuff it was just vaporware.

I'm guessing that with most of the multicarts that have at least 10 games, some of them are SG-1000 titles. That said, I don't have any GG multicarts so I'm not sure.

some of Open/Daou's games were released on a multicart in Australia by HES too. but yeah i think their stuff plus Zemina's Super Boy 4 is about the extent of it.

I found a whole page on this stuff on SMS Power. Here is a link to the topic http://www.smspower.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=12227 (http://www.smspower.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=12227)

I guess these pirate carts are a lot more prolific than I thought, surprised I don't have any to be honest. BTW, why do so many Game Boy and Game Gear multicarts feature a Simpsons game when most of them suck? :P

The Simpsons are HUGE in Latin America, so if they were thinking on that market it's only logical to include their games. Just saying.

The Simpsons are huge pretty much everywhere (more so in the early-mid 90s when these carts were presumably made), so yeah, it makes sense. when did pirates ever care about the quality of a game over what sells?

Correction: The Simpsons were huge, as far as I'm concerned it went downhill after about the 10th series. Anyway, I'm just raising the point that if they're going to feature any game, shouldn't it be one of the best ones? :P

The problem is, they don't have many good games to speak of :P

The photo over here http://www.smspower.org/forums/files/gg_multi_188.jpg (http://www.smspower.org/forums/files/gg_multi_188.jpg) has a GG Mario Brother. Can this possibly be some sort of pirate game or a port like how Dr. Hello was?

its probably Super Boy 2. or a repeat of Super Boy 2, since that's in the list already.

Or can be Super Boy 1

Super Boy 1 was never for the Sega Master System, only Super Boy 2 and 4.

In that case, where did I hear about an SG-1000 port of the first game?

No idea, I know the first Super Boy was only on MSX. Super Boy 2 was really an SG-1000 game on a Master System cart though.

Not meaning to be off-topic, but whats really strange is that the Street fighter II pirate has the same music as Buzz & Waldog, an unlicensed game which also rips graphics from Mario and Sonic games... A very weird relationship.

Links so you can hear the same music: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cDR10bGqlI4 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cDR10bGqlI4) (SF Pirate)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGaBARHsay4 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGaBARHsay4) (Buzz and Waldog NES game)

Anyone know what's the deal with this? I dont think theyre made by the same people, since B&W is a godlike game which is programmed well and the SFII pirate is... well.. garbage. This really trips me out because as far as Ive ever heard, these are the only 2 games with this music. What gives?

Maybe it was just the same sound guy. that happens sometimes.

I was thinking that originally, but then wouldn't the SFII pirate at least sound a bit more... stable, I guess is the word I'm looking for.. than it does now? Of course it's different hardware, but that shouldn't make too much of a difference to the composer, should it?

- The same music is also used in Open's Master System game "Toto World 3", for which Buzz & Waldog was a sort of sequel... maybe they just poached the sound programmer; it happens. But...
- The 16-pixel font used in Jang Pung 2 is very similar to one that's used in Metal Force.
- There's a sequel called Jang Pung 3 which is much better. It was developed by... you guessed it... Open.

They probably drafted in some inexperienced programmers for Jang Pung II, what I never understood was why the quality of those Korean pirates varied a lot. Gameplay-wise, JPII feels more like The General's Son on the Famicom than anything, and that was by Daou Infosys.
