Is it possible to tell if a Somari is an old mid-90s copy v a newer one?

(1/1)

Eadwine:
I'm imagining probably not, because of how murky information on this sort of publishing is. But here's the cartridge I recently received. Does it look like an older one? The label is the same as the cartridge shown on the wiki but the casing is different.

Doomkid:
You can always tell carts that are over 20 years old by the following:

- the plastic feels far more sturdy than "cheap yellow carts". Sometimes nearly on par with real famicom games.
- the label is usually faded or discolored.
- the PCB is the "big chip" style rather than a tiny little glob-top style.

Everything about the photos and your description suggests this is a 90s copy of Somari, from back when they were produced with much better quality. I have a few older Hummer team games in really solid old cartridges that are black or dark blue, and the difference in build quality from 2005-and-later famiclone stuff is night and day.
