Title: West Story (西遊記)
Post by: codeman38 on September 15, 2012, 07:16:51 PM
For those who don't follow Qiezei/Nusutto/Watari's YouTube channel yet... an interesting little treat from the Vast Fame 8-in-1 cart (which was completely unadvertised on its packaging!):

Yeah, it's definitely clear now that Vast Fame had something to do with that Harry Potter 3 shmup.

I might be wrong, but aren't all of the games by V.Fame?

Hey Watari, you think you can have this dumped?...[/quote]Maybe.  I was thinking of sending the game to Taizou and see if he could dump anything from here.  I'm figuring that if he managed to get a game out of the 12-in-1 (Shi Kong Xing Shou) that he might have similar luck with this.  After all, if he can manage to dump at least one of the games then we'd have a 5 out of 8 chance of getting something new.  Otherwise I'd have to wait until somebody can properly dump them by bypassing the copy protection or whatever.  It's the same issue that's keeping me from dumping all my other GBC games.

And Cheetah, All of these games are by Vast Fame, or at least share some staffers (as evidenced by the Silver Version 12-in-1 multicart.)  The only two that aren't totally confirmed (but are pretty much considered to be V.Fame titles) are this game and Emo Dao, which doesn't have any V.Fame reference in-game or images on the box...

Interestingly, the wall-of-text screens in the intro for West Story are typeset pretty much identically to those in Emo Dao. Hmm.

These carts don't seem to have protection as such, they're just "protected" by the nature of a multicart - I'd need some way to force it to switch games without using a Game Boy. Hell I even toyed with the idea of somehow linking a Game Boy's cart port to the Transferer so it could be simultaneously connected to both, but I have basically zero experience in stuff like that and I'd probably just start a fire or something.

If the game does receive a dump, I'd very likely give it a shot.

Though all I have to ask by far; is there a Prodius game either on the Famicom or Game Boy that the music used in both this game and Harry Potter 3 originated from? They are quite catchy tunes, alike the ones normally used in V.Fame games.

I knew the game, but how to play?
