Super Famicom/SNES / A Bug's Life, Aladdin 2000
« on: October 17, 2011, 09:00:30 PM »
Both of these arrived today courtesy Sonik.

A Bug's Life is a port of the MD version, has DVS Electronics on the label but they're not mentioned on the title screen. Crap controls, same jerky platforming engine as all the other SNES pirates, and I'm not even going to bother to mention what sound music/FX/driver it uses... Much like Pocket Monster it's just a second rate port of the MD game.

Aladdin 2000, where do I start on this turd? Firstly, by thanking RetrogamerX for donating his cartridge; then by cursing those responsible for it's existence. You will literally fall through the fucking floor within the first 10 seconds of the game. Then there's this weird glitch where stuff you'd normally walk over that would hurt you (spikes, hot coals) doesn't actually hurt you at all, and in fact your character slides without animating at all when walking over it. It's a horrible, horrible game. As was speculated in another thread, it's a port of the MD version to SNES, but honestly the Famicom port was way better. The controls are awful, the physics are inconsistent, and from what I can tell the music might be original but the loop is so short it repeats after about 15 seconds.

Hopefully have this cracked soon so you can all be as underwhelmed as I.

Mega Drive/Genesis / What's this line of text? (King of Fighters '99)
« on: October 13, 2011, 02:28:46 AM »
Attached is a screenshot of a line of text that will appear after bootup only under weird circumstances that I can't pinpoint.

This is when trying to use the unpatched ROM in a flash cartridge. It will only appear when booting the game on a Sega Nomad, no other hardware or emulation setting I've found will replicate it.

Since the Nomad screen is shit, and it only appears for a few seconds, the resulting picture is garbage. Managed to snap it 3 times and paste them all together, just in case one is clearer than the other for certain parts.

After it shows this text for a few seconds, the screen returns to black and the game locks up.

Pirate Talk / Tell me about Innovation
« on: October 13, 2011, 01:11:47 AM »
I remember staring in awe at their print ads back in the day, full page ads with dozens of games and products mentioned that all looked awesome. Ten years after the fact I realize that a lot of the crap they were planning on releasing never made it, along with their ties to other unlicensed software and hardware manufacturers.

I came across some N64-controller shaped Famiclones the other day and was surprised to find they produced stuff that new (well, that's not really new... but you know what I mean). Seems like someone ran across a large pile of NOS Game Wizards for SNES that were auctioned off for $50USD over the past few years on ebay also.

I don't have one of their print ads handy but may still have a copy in a few of the old game magazines I managed to keep. Does anyone know anything about the history of this company; what games/software they actually did release and what they planned on but didn't?

Game Boy / Are all GBA clones garbage?
« on: September 28, 2011, 04:10:56 AM »
Recently received one of the many Gameboy Advance clones on the market, this particular one supporting CPS1 & media files along with having a built in microSD slot.

Not that I expected anything great but I was definitely underwhelmed by it. I mainly wanted a GBASP shaped system with a nice screen to play my carts on, and while this one does have a really nice screen everything else is garbage. The cart slot might as well not even be there due to all the incompatibilities with real cartridges.

And believe me, I don't care what anyone says, if you can't see the frameskipping on not just one but every single damn game then you've never even played a real GBA.

From what I can gather all of these are just emulators run on the same chipset with varying degrees of internal memory and file format compatibilities based on the console's manufacturer. Am I wrong? Do all of these play like horseshit or is their a particular model that's actually good?

Pirate Talk / DVS Electronics - More than South American SNES games?
« on: September 12, 2011, 12:50:40 AM »
Ran across this cheat device which I did not know even existed.

http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/839/psxdvsgamegenius.jpg/

As you can see it's similar to the older Gameshark/Action Replay models that required the dongle for them to work. Since PS1 codes weren't encoded they worked cross platform with most cheat devices, I wonder which type this actually supported?

I had no idea DVS produced anything other than SNES bootlegs. Has anyone else ran into anything they've made?

Super Famicom/SNES / New reprints of SNES pirates now in circulation
« on: September 07, 2011, 01:55:02 AM »
A seller I had delt with in the past contacted me a few weeks ago about having an X-Men VS Street Fighter SNES cartridge for sale. Strange thing about it was it was in a Japanese style SFC shell with a "legitimate" looking Japanese label, unlike the SNES style Brazilian release with the crappy label.

Soon after that another guy I deal with had the same thing, and a Tekken 2 cartridge done in the same way.

I ended up buying the X-Men vs Street Fighter game and got it in the mail today. It's an actual newly produced cartridge, and by new I mean went straight from the warehouse to my hands. The cartridge shell is SFC style so it won't fit in a US SNES with the tabs still intact. The PCB is new, so it's not a used board from the late 1990's; it's not a first run version. The board itself has some strange things, attached is a picture of it.

Just in case you cannot read it, the EEPROM chip has "X-MEN" written on it, the top says NINTENDO SUPER FAMICOM CARTRIDGE, the left says LoROM 16Mbit By WeLoveGame, the chip on the left has 1990 NINTENDO on it. This points to a lot of really interesting things....

- WeLoveGame apparently produces their own PCB's, and probably shells being that it was a new one also
- They don't use globtops, which means either a low production run or a homemade outfit
- They're using EEPROMs, which no pirate outfit is going to use this day and age
- Why on earth does the CIC chip on the left have Nintendo on it? NO UNLICENSED GAME USES THESE! This points to using sac carts for the CIC chip?

The point of all this is that until this was cracked few years ago the only versions that existed were the original production runs by DVS or
whoever, there wasn't a "pirated" version available. I've dumped it and yep, this version has the copy protection routine removed. So basically what you're buying isn't a legitimate cart, but something along the lines of a more professionally made repro cart.

Mega Drive/Genesis / Bare Knuckle III Terry Bogard pirate
« on: September 06, 2011, 12:10:22 AM »
A long (like 10+ years) ago I was really into the game enhancer "scene" and used to find codes with a Pro Action Replay for various systems. I was a big BK fan, and started working on it. I found the two unused motorbike stages in the Japanese version and wrote a FAQ about it. A few years after that BK got a larger following and a lot of people started to pick apart the ROM images and find lots of useful info.

So a few years ago I started reading about a guy named Red Crimson who was making a director's cut of Bare Knuckle III / Streets of Rage 3. He was going to incorporate new artwork, moves, and so forth making the game more complete to its original concept. There was a small blurb about the version of the game he ended up working with was from a Chinese pirate of the Japanese ROM that was both translated into Chinese and added Terry Bogard from Fatal Fury as a playable character.

From everything I read the source of that game was glossed over, it was only elaborated that since the Chinese programmer(s) had taken the time to restructure the game code to allow for additional character information this was easier than working from a regular Japanese ROM.

Does anyone know anything about this? I know there's a chance that it only exists as a fan-made hack and not an actual pirated cartridge, but given the circumstances and the source it's coming from I figured it did likely come from an actual cartridge. I have never even seen the actual ROM image and only know if it's existence through the information about the Director's Cut origins.

Mega Drive/Genesis dumps / Finding Nemo + ROM
« on: August 26, 2011, 12:28:06 AM »
Link HERE

It's a hack by Glorysun of James Pond. Has some new artwork and new character sprites and the story is changed to refer to the main character as Nemo.

Never really was a fan of the game, so if it's played farther there might be some new stuff on it.

Prices in US dollars, not including shipping. Tons of references available. I can ship anywhere. As an estimate, I can fit up to 6 Sega carts in a flat rate box, anywhere in the US for $5.20 and $15 international. Payment via cash/check/MO or Paypal gift. I can accept regular Paypal payments if the buyer agrees to cover the fees.

All of these are tested & working, but since some are designed for clone hardware they may require a Game Genie or similar device to work on a stock console. The Community / ROM begging, amongst other things
« on: August 09, 2011, 07:52:08 AM »
So I have this friend.

Let's say this friend is interested in playing a particular game, but isn't sure if the game is dumped or even if it exists. Maybe he's interested in dumping something he already owns but doesn't want to waste the time if it's already been done. Or, maybe he comes across what he thinks is a really rare game that's going to cost him a kidney to buy but since he squanders a lot of his income on disposable items like food or utilities he isn't going to fool with outrageous international wire transfer fees for something you can get for free. There's also probably a good chance he's just a sorry ass that is too lazy to Google search results for ROM images.

So if this guy wanted to just say, "Hey, is this available? If so, spoon-feed me" what would be the proper way to go about posting such things?

Super Famicom/SNES / Soul Edge VS Samurai Spirits for SNES, MD
« on: July 06, 2011, 03:25:21 PM »
Edit...link to both games in dumps section of the forum

Hi guys;

Arrived today was Soul Edge VS Samurai Spirits for both SNES and Mega Drive. Since there's already some discussion about the Sega port (which basically boils down to one post on this forum out of all the internets) I figure I'd touch on the Super Nintendo port.

This is actually the rumored Samurai Spirits II port. Other than the title screen, it's a pretty straight up port of SSII for MD with an additional Soul Blade character added in (Seung Nina (sp?) and Cham Cham removed. Most of the music is either already used in unlicensed games or ported from the MD version, nothing ripped straight out of Final Fight 2 like KoF 2000 did. All the sound effects are ripped straight from Street Fighter II, just like X-Men VS Street Fighter, Street Fighter Alpha, and King of Fighters 2000. I also noticed the title screen song used by XMvsSF was in here as a regular background song.

The game uses the same jerky fighting engine that's been used in all the SNES fighters. My cart had an incredibly elementary done label from Dream House Games. And the title screen lists...... DVS Electronics.

I'll be dumping this as soon as I get a chance. I'll try and post some screenshots and stuff until then. If y'all need any more information about it just let me know.

Mega Drive/Genesis / Info on a few pirate hacks?
« on: May 05, 2011, 11:52:45 PM »
If any of these have been discussed already, forgive my ignorance. I'm just cutting and pasting a lists from a few forums and other places, along with some possible answers. I have seen nothing, not even a screenshot, of these listed.

Basically looking for any information about these hacks; are they dumped, does anyone own or have played them, are they anything beyond a simple title screen hack, etc. Anything that is confirmed I'll update the list as time progresses. Maybe some of these needed to be added on the Wiki undumped list?

Pirate Talk / About those undumped carts of yours.....
« on: April 19, 2011, 02:40:22 AM »
At the risk of this spiraling out into an e-penis contest, I'd like to have a thread available for people to list the particular carts they own that are currently undumped or not available publicly. I know there's a lot of games I'd like to have more information about that barely exist beyond a blurry auction photo or a foreign language forum post.

Perhaps those that have the equipment to dump could also post and offer their services. Even if you weren't interested in dumping your cartridge you could provide particular game details to those that are interested.

So fess up you stingy punks... who's holding out?

60
So apparently I've taken on this quest to find a working version (cart or otherwise) of this game.

This was a rather obscure release with a low production run. The game has been dumped, but as far as I can tell the copy protection has not been removed on it. Because of that it only works in a few choice emulators (HazeMD, Picodrive, etc). The available dump will not work on any other emulators or actual hardware due to this.

I've been unable to locate anyone having an actual cart for sale. The closest thing I've found to a cracked version is referenced in this Chinese forum which has both a link to the crack and to the ROM, but without being a registered user I can't download the crack.

Does anyone know anything else about this release?
