Famicom/NES dumps / Nongoodnes

Seems a bit weird that they'd make an alternate version of an existing game for the Taiwanese market, but then given the amount of games that went through unnecessary localisation in North America it shouldn't be too surprising. I imagine most people there still played the Japanese version though considering what piracy was like there.

Weird. I do wonder if carts of the 8 in 1 and 9 in 1 versions exist somewhere. :o

Edit: I also love the 9 in 1's title screen, with assets clearly taken from Super Mario Bros, Mickey Mousecapade and Adventure Island along with that badly stretched Dr. Mario sprite. :pandahappy:

I've seen that on Youtube before, but I seem to remember there being a Famicom version where the save feature on Kirby doesn't work. (It might work on other Famicom versions, I'm not sure though)

I've only just got around to watching a video of this and it looks pretty cool IMO. I might play it if I can set aside the time for it. :)

Should I add these to the BGW?[/quote]So long as you've got some info on what the game actually is and you know for sure that the games aren't officially licenced (which I'm certain in the case of these games they aren't), then sure. Someone should probably add that Cabal ripoff with the Contra background on it too. I'd do it but I know sod all about that game.

Mega Drive/Genesis / VGM rips from bootlegs
« on: July 05, 2015, 06:17:24 AM »
I think the tracks in Super Mario World 64 (with the exception of the title screen and level 1 themes) are taken from TaleSpin, Super Battletank and Jeopardy for some reason.

Mega Drive/Genesis / VGM rips from bootlegs

I think those Russian bootlegs take their music from a module tracker (albeit in a different key) and the Hugo games are hacks of Chuck Rock 2 if I remember correctly.

Mega Drive/Genesis / AtGames consoles aren't ARM-based?
« on: July 01, 2015, 04:29:02 AM »
So from what I understand, the hardware was developed by DMC. I kind of had a suspicion that AtGames didn't make their own hardware as the same flawed emulation appears on some more recent pirate Mega Drive clones (although it only seems to be with handheld stuff as far as I know) and it makes sense that, given sound problems most NOACs have, these systems would run on a GOAC.

Also, that first page you linked mentions DMC fixing sound bugs at some point, but as far as I can tell their most recent devices have the same sound emulation problems.

Actually, I'm pretty sure they changed the hardware itself at some point as while the sound emulation is off on all of them (as far as I can tell at least), I've noticed that older models with cartridge slots are incompatible with far more games than newer models.

Interesting find. :) It looks to be very similar to the 2000 version of Street Dance (it has the same music).

Oh yeah, I remember poking around the Windows 98 ROM a while back and finding several Nice Code games such as Box World hidden in it, and the menu interface on this game seems to use the same font as a bunch of their games. I do wonder if they were involved with the development somehow.

I know JY-style carts exist (sometimes with the same games/multicarts they released) with different two-letter initials on them.

I'd assume it's the former considering that unlicenced light gun games always support the zapper from what I've noticed.

:O Great! I don't think it's cut down considering that the game is 512k.

Same here, I'd like to see footage of whatever games haven't been dumped yet if you'd be willing to record it.
