Title: Annoyance trying to play Famicom games
Post by: Doomkid on February 21, 2012, 08:34:43 AM
So recently I got 3 famicom pirate cartridges, and I was eagerly awaiting 4 copies of Gyromite I'd ordered from eBay that had 5 screws/no tabs, so I was hoping at least one would have the built in converter that I'm sure most of you know about. But it's just my luck that all 4 of them did not have it =/

For a while, a seller had a honeybee Famicom to NES adapter for 35 bucks, but I checked and it is no longer there. I got a famiclone from Volumerates a few months ago.. but.. it's just flat out awful.  Glitchy as hell with horribly messed up music, which for me makes it unplayable.

So, here's my question: Where can I find either a decent famiclone, or preferably a Famciom to NES adaptor? I've looked all over eBay, and funnily enough it seems there are loads of NES to Famciom converters, but none the other way around!! >_<

Any help of any kind is greatly appreciated. I just want to play these damn pirate cartridges on a reliable console with my NES controllers!

You could try Taobao for those.  I know they have Micro Genius Famiclones (http://search8.taobao.com/search?q=%D0%A1%CC%EC%B2%C5+FC&commend=all&ssid=s5-e&pid=mm_14507416_2297358_8935934) there, and I did see one or two NES/FC Converters (http://search8.taobao.com/search?q=FC+NES&pid=mm_14507416_2297358_8935934&unid=0&mode=63) there as well.  As far as ordering from there, you'd need an ordering service like Taobaonow.

What I use to play Famicom cartridges is the Game Fillip 88-in-1 (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002X9B5AA/ref=oh_o05_s00_i00_details). The Square 2 (if I'm not mistaken) is played at a different/lower octave.

If you want to have a decent famiclone which can play rare pirate games, you should get a Power Joy.

Actually, that doesn't sound like a bad idea.  My Power Joy system plays all the crap I buy for the Famicom without a problem, and it's what I use for Famicom game footage.  If I remember right they pop up on Ebay every so often.

Thanks for the responses, guys. I'm really trying to avoid ''non-famous'' famiclones because they just too often have that 'half-assed NES' stench to them, though I've always wanted one of those Power Joy pads, so I'll definitely keep an eye open for them.

There's a copy of 'stack up' on ebay which is apparently almost always supposed to have a converter.. it's like 35 buncks including shipping... But after 4 unsuccessful game-converter-cartridge purchases, I think I'm just gonna bite the bullet and buy this really overpriced honeyBee that just now popped up. *sigh* one adaptor for the same price as 3 rare Pirate Fami games =/ Oh well, that's what I get for being a collector I suppose. :P

Stack Up ALL have converters, but they are becoming so rare because everyone buy them because they know there's a converter inside them. The price increased so much in the last year because of this. I highly not recommend using Stack Up.

Well I bought the honeyBee for 45 dollars total.. Pretty expensive but it looked to be in awesome condition. But then I checked again and someone has a bunch of bright green ones for only 25 dollars, and you get two of them. Seems like a much better deal, but then again they might not work as well either.

I cant wait for that honeyBee to get here, very excited. :)
