Discussion Center / Cry Wolf Productions
« on: July 18, 2011, 01:24:57 AM »
Has anybody here heard about the recent mass attacks spearheaded by a "Cry Wolf Productions" on youtube?

Basically, any videos referencing Irate Gamer in a "negative" way (parodies, YTP, commentaries, rants, etc) are being false-flagged (and taken down) and the associated accounts are being suspended. Though it may be one end of the youtube spectrum, there is currently an uproar from about 100 users on youtube who are justifiably in rage due to their accounts being suspended by this phony company. A lot of these people are actually quite well known and have high production values for their video game reviews+videos; and their accounts (with whatever videos) were taken away from them. Besides the ~100 guys, it has also impacted some few others who have decided to leave youtube altogether.

Furthermore, several other accounts that have Irate Gamer related material have set their content to private to avoid this attacking spree.

Upon contact with Chris Bores by some other guy, he has strongly reaffirmed that he is not involved with this and is in fact upset that someone is using a phony company and potentially defaming him (not that he had too much fame to begin with; but he gets respect for at least saying that Cry Wolf Productions must be stopped). He quit false-flagging some years back and never false-flagged to this magnitude.

As a similar point, this kind of behaviour clearly reflects on how much youtube fails. You can clearly see how much youtube neglects the injustices and how false-flagging goes untapped.

Hacker Center / Help with downloading a hack pack
« on: July 16, 2011, 09:29:34 PM »
Hey, guys. This is about something cx4 brought up on his site. He showed picture of a different version of Air Contra.

I have found a link to a giant RAR of NES ROM hacks. Among these are at least 5 graphical hacks related to Contra.

Unfortunately, I do not know how to download the thing from the site. And the worst part is that it seems the download is going to end in less than 3 weeks.

Here's the link to the giant NES ROM collection: http://u.115.com/file/cz4ntoh0

Please, I REALLY need help with getting this download. If you can try your best to find out how to download it, let me know.

Thanks a bunch.

Hacker Center / Super CR4P 7
« on: July 15, 2011, 12:24:11 AM »
Have any of you guys seen the Hell Hack of Super C SMWHacker88 and I worked on?

Well anyway, the main interest in this topic is another hack we worked on: Super *Parc Backwards* 7. You may have guessed it, it's a hack of Super Contra 7. Now, the difficulty is insanely hard (read: insanity); but gamers who've frequented Doom modding communities may know about Jokewads with similar characteristics, and so this may not be unusual to them.

So, as the title may suggest, this is essentially a joke hack (or joke ROM) of Super Contra 7. Now, Super C Hell Hack may be a killer hard hack we made, but it's at least reasonable and genuine challenge and can be beaten. To beat Super YONG YONG 7 genuinely, you must have no life :P

Interesting features of Super *parc backwards* 7:

-Levels hacked to be very hard.
-Every level is packed to the brim with enemies.
-New, unused enemies populate the levels, all stored in the ROM, including an indestructible variant of the gun dispenser.
-Enemies of different levels found on different levels.
-Many enemies are given insane strength.
-New enemies/boss behaviour.
-Getting powerup isn't so easy.
-The extra lives cheat isn't going to help you... AT ALL.
-Modified graphics and palette for almost everything.
-Music is partially modified.
-Sound effects are heavily modified and can really drive you mad!!!

This hack is recommended to be played with infinite lives, at least, and even then, be prepared to spend a good amount of time battling your way through.

And so, without further TO DO, I present to you, SUPER *PARC BACKWARDS* 7:

Anybody here got iTunes?

I need some help with an app that doesn't seem to be available in my country (Canada). It also doesn't seem to be available in the US. Unfortunately, I do not know how to determine what country it requires you to be in. Could any of you guys try to access this app and see if it's available in your country (a Contra-based app):

Other Pirates / Gun-Force

Here's a strange Contra clone available on a 16 bit pirated game system. it the system Super Game 7-in-1. It's a controller, looks like Xbox. The company is Timetop, which I suspect is the same Timetop that made the line of unlicensed clone-harvested Gameking handheld systems.

Here's video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Fsj_rebF4g

EDIT: I just read that he might dump his cart's ROM.

Other Pirates / Commander
« on: January 10, 2011, 07:50:22 PM »
Similar to my Desert Storm thread, this is centered on the 16 bit game, Commander.

Condensed verdict: one of the worst excuses of a video game and definitely one of the worst Contra games.

Detailed information:

The game has 1 music track; it's a 5-second sample of the first level tune from arcade Super Contra. It literally plays throughout the entire game, except for the first level's boss, which is a tank. The tank's motor acts as the music in that segment.

You play as Ray, from Contra Hard Corps. Your default gun is the ordinary pea shooter, but you can upgrade to Machine Gun (same strength and as regular gun, the most pointless powerup), Spread Gun (can be weaker than your default gun) and fireball (acts like NES Contra's Fireball but is the most powerful gun in the game; it's slow, however). There's also a plain powerup without any letter. I don't even know what this does, but I suspect it clears the screen of enemies. But even that I can't even confirm because you find this powerup fly by ALWAYS when there are no enemies around.

You also can't gain lives through points, but it gives infinite continues. After each game over, you start at the beginning of that current stage you were on. The hit detection is absolutely horrid in some areas. And it doesn't help your troubles that the controller's motion sensor is programmed poorly, so you'll often jump when you don't want to (usually into enemies). Even when not doing anything, the player will jump sometimes.

All fodder enemies and some boss enemies were taken from Contra. Most bosses come from other sources (IDK).

The worst part of this game? There are only 2 levels. That's right. But even though there are some minibosses, the actual bosses themselves take forever to destroy. Using the fireball gun alone can take about 5 minutes to kill one boss when intensely firing at it. I don't consider this any bit a consolation for the game's minute length, nor can it qualify as a challenge. It's just tedious.

Bottom line: perhaps you'd want to beat this game knowing that it has infinite continues and only 2 levels, partly making up for its shitty nature. I'm getting really suspicious that this is just a stupid ripped and shortened version of Super X Man. Why? Well, that game has a main menu, character select, more guns and definitely more music. With that in mind, it's safe to assume it probably has more levels.

1993-1999 / Desert Storm
« on: December 16, 2010, 03:15:21 PM »
Recently, I received the Sudoku 49-in-1 in mail. Not only that, but I beat Desert Storm. Overview:

-Definitely made by Waixing. The game's engine doesn't exactly seem to be that of Super Contra 7, but very similar.
-You start with the spread gun as default and can get machine gun, "laser gun", barrier and powerup to get back to spread gun. You keep your gun if you get killed, this time.
-Music is annoying, but tolerable in some spots.
-The game contains 4 levels, each divided into 2 long sub levels. So there are technically 8 levels. The first 2 are quite easy after you learn the pattern etc. But the last 2 levels are unforgivingly hard due to shitty gameplay.
-The game actually boasts an options menu where you can set the number of lives for you and your partner (0-10) and even 3 difficulties (easy, medium and hard).
-Sound effects entirely from Super C.
-There might be ripped graphics from Super C besides a grenadier and slugs.
-If you compare the copyright number chain on the bottom of this game with Super Fight I, the latter might be released first.

This one is mostly aimed at Taizou: I seem to have found a cheat code of sorts. Get to any level after the first one and get game over. I don't exactly know what triggers the cheat, but you can continue on the level you died. Basically, I held A and B buttons and tried hitting start. Then, I held B alone and tried hitting start. Then I held A alone and kept hitting start. About 5 out of 6 times, it took me to the level I last died on. I don't exactly know what's the combo, so if you figure something, that'd be great.

1993-1999 / Contra Pirates!
« on: December 01, 2010, 09:10:38 PM »
Ok, after finally finding this board from... not being able to find it in a while (mostly due to initiative), I've come across way too much Contra-related stuff to let this slide.

This topic is about all the CONTRA-RELATED pirates that we are aware about and it would be wonderful if you guys contribute to this discussion.

First, pirate Contra-related games that have ROM's dumped:
Contra 1993
Contra Fighter
Contra Spirits
Darkwing Duck II
Dragon Ball Z: Super Butouden 3 (Contra Force background)
Huan Shi Lu (Contra's Jungle theme raped)
Lu Ye Xian Zong (some Contra sound effects)
Silent Assault (horrible, borderline Contra clone by Color Dreams or JoyVan)
Super Contra II
Super Contra 3
Super Contra 5
Super Contra 6
Super Contra 7
Super Contra 8
Super Contra X
Super Fight I
Super Fighter
Toy Story (music and sound taken from Contra Spirits pirate)
X Plan (is the sound messed up in the ROM because of no emulation of the sound hardware?)

Contra-related games which are not dumped/I'm not sure if there's a dump:
Behind Enemy Lines
Commander (16 bit Contra clone)
Conora/Contra 8 (appears to be a Sintax game for Gameboy Color) screenshots?
Desert Storm (Palette 1) like what Taizou has
Desert Storm (Palette 2) featured on things like Sudoku 49-in-1 (I'm getting one)
Desert Storm (Palette 2 & Single Player Only) like featured on a 25-in-1 Coolboy Cartridge
Forest Contra, can anyone confirm if there's even any relation to Contra, or it's just The Punisher with Contra cartridge?
New Contra (Variant 1)
New Contra (Variant 2)
New Contra (Variant 3)
Super Fight I (strange alternate palette, single player version)
Super X Man (alternate version of Commander)

Games with things taken from Contra:
4-in-1 FK-8134 (http://contraseries.wordpress.com/2010/09/05/4-in-1-nes/) is it only the background, or more?
Bounce, ROM? screenshots?
Contra 7, screenshots?
Doraemon Somari hack,  Is there a ROM dump?
Frogger (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ps9ZUX7Yhww)
Jewel Master (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gbXl25AizlI) Is there a ROM dump?
Path Finder, ROM? screenshots?
Risker, ROM? screenshots?
Unnamed Egg-catching game (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_yiRRWUk4xo) Is there a ROM dump?
Valiant Rescue, ROM? screenshots?

Anybody have more games to add to this list? What about any contributios for poor ol' me? :)

Also, please feel free to point out anything pertaining to any of these Contra pirates!
