2000-present / Handheld hardware with small cartridges
« on: October 07, 2012, 04:12:56 PM »
Hi there,

So, I bought this device recently : http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/457838238/PNP_Game_player.html

It's a quite nice handheld Famiclone. Here are the infos I gathered so far :
 * 4MB on-board flash memory with "50000-in-1" menu (30 actual games)
 * 2MB flash memory on cartridge with "999999-in-1" menu (35 actual games)
 * 32K RAM chip on-board

I'm trying to find more info on the device. It seems that there are other similar handelds from Shenzhen Nanjing using the same cartridge kind. The cart has 50 pins (25 on each side), 1.27mm (0.05") spaced. They seem to connect more or less directly to the flash chip. I'll be looking for the pinout and try to dump the flash.

Anyway, I'm wondering if someone got his hands on such devices, or even heard of them. It looks like it could be based on the VT02 chip, since it seems to use "OneBus" external memory (the lack of mapper out of the black blob circuit and the fact that the cartridge PCB is labelled "16bit" hint to that). But it could be some other strange design with the flash used as PRG ROM and the internal SRAM as VRAM, I'm not sure yet.

A list of games :
Internal cart:
 Super Mario 3
 Super Mario 6 (hack of Looney Toons)
 Upin Ipin (hack of Mac Donalds Land ?)

Cartridge (menu shows JB223016 on the bottom, any hint what it could mean ?)
 Crash (Disney Jungle Book hack)
 Mighty Final Fight
 Snow bros
 Contra
 Aladdin (not the ones already on the wiki, it's some green guy on a flying carpet. No title screen or whatever)
 Adventure Island
 Bomberman
 90 Tank (Battle City)
 dr Mario
 Macross
 Super Mario
 1942
 Lode Runner

As you can see, there are some duplicates between the cart and internal memory. I think I'll try to hack the cart to replace these with some games that are really missing (like, any Tetris version).

I ordered a connector that will help me dump the cart. For now, I'm looking for any information about this device, and the games inside. Any help welcome !
