Title: Pokemon Stadium MD?
Post by: djshok on September 21, 2011, 09:32:03 PM
I've only ever seen this one video of it.  Does anyone know anything about this game, or have a ROM of it?

Oh cool, my video is mentioned. Thanks a bunch :D Anyway, someone gave me its ROM when I did a video of it but sadly, I don't know where it can be found.

djshok, the working dump has appeared on this forum earlier.

As Aleximus mentioned, the other thread mentions both a cracked and uncracked version. The cracked version resets after a battle, the uncracked version works properly but only in the few emulators that support the copy protection.

The copy protection routines have been documented so it would be possible to patch the ROM correctly to work in any emulator or flash cartridge.

I'd hate to bump an absolutely ANCIENT topic but as mentioned a little higher up, the patched ROM isn't available to download anymore and I, myself, can't get HazeMD to work for pot. So, after exhausting my resources and patience, I have to ask...is there anyyyywhere were I can find the patched version? Or is it lost forever?   :\

Ahoy-hoy, yet another bump, but this time for a good reason: Pokemon Stadium MD, patched (http://www.4shared.com/file/hk6qoooh/Pokemon_Stadium.html). Hosted for now by yours truly. :D

I noticed a bunch of these carts popping up lately, and up until now I had never even seen one. They're obviously reprints based on a patched version of the ROM, but is this fully patched version available for download anywhere?

All I've ever seen are the unpatched versions, or the kinda-patched one that resets after the first battle.

And for the game itself, did anyone else notice how the attack mechanic is totally different between the SNES and MD versions? By different I mean totally broken. One has the bar to select attacks rapidly changing and you have to time a button press with a little bit of skill to get it to land on a certain spot. The other just lets you fill the bar up manually until you get to whatever attack level you want. That one little change completely alters the entire game.

Aw man! I used to have the ROM to the Mega Drive version already patched back in 2009, but I don't know where it went. I know for sure that I burned it into one of my CD-R's to use on an emulator for the Dreamcast, but since I no longer have that, chances are I can't find that CD. Maybe I might look for it some time.

As for how I managed to get my hands on this ROM, when I posted a video about looking at the tiles within the SNES ROM in Tile Layer Pro, someone posted a comment that contained a link to the Mega Drive version (I forget his name, of course).

I remember that someone posted a code where you can fight the other Pokémon besides Dogars under control of of the computer.

Great, only just realized these posts. :$ I was the one who gave it to Ray to mirror in the first place.

If I checked the other topics, it would've gotten uploaded quicker. :( Apologies.

Is this fully patched, or does it reset after the first battle in some emulators?

Is this fully patched, or does it reset after the first battle in some emulators?
No, it resets after the first battle. That means it's an earlier patch and not the final version Ray had posted.

Oh, all the versions reset after first battle unless you've got HazeMD. :\

If you use HazeMD, then you can use directly the unpatched ROM ;)

oh, and for the record, the unpatched version also works on MESS and Genesis Plus GX...

:O It does? Awesome! :D I'll use MESS instead, because HazeMD is a pain to use. ^_^

well, MESS is based on HazeMD since ~2010.

a few pirate games are missing an ID routine, so you need to use the xml software list to play them (i.e. rename the archive with the shortname expected by MESS, like you would with MAME, and put it inside the roms/ folder), but if you find anything which was working in HazeMD and is not working now in MESS, please report it because it's a bug and I'd happily try to fix it ;)

Can anyone PM Ray for the final version of the patch?

WTF is it with this game?  Why can't you ever attack? All you can do is defence and avoid confrontation... what the shit man lol
Title: Pokemon Stadium MD?
Post by: Azathoth on March 23, 2013, 11:30:02 PM
What you do is hold the A button down to fill the attack meter, each of your 4 attacks are done by filling up 1/4 of the meter. 1/4 meter filled is attack 1, 1/2 filled is attack 2, etc.

You hold A down to fill the meter, then you release and (I think) you press B to choose an attack. The attacks you can pick from will be highlighted as your meter fills up.

It's stupid because if you're content with picking the 1st weak attack, you can always attack before the opponent. The SNES version had a moving bar, kinda like when you defend on the MD one, and you tried to press A when it landed on a certain spot to initiate an attack.

Oh, all the versions reset after first battle unless you've got HazeMD. :\
does it really work on HazeMD?
I'm on OSX so I cannot test directly, but the same exact code used by HazeMD makes the game to reset after the first match in MESS, because the game writes to the bankswitch address...

Here (https://www.mediafire.com/?k3fvqxmufm1qwiv) is a MediaFire mirror of the patched ROM that Gafe shared. This (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dhGCJdk0ErU) video just modifies RAM. For an easy win, I recommend choosing Gengar because his Lvl1 attack deals 20 points of damage or use the code 00100C:0002 to start off against Windy. It seems that Stage 2 is the only Stage that causes the game to reset - all the other Stages do not have this problem.

Edit: Whoops, that ROM still resets upon starting the 2nd match. I'll see if I can circumvent this issue.
