Beggar Prince and Legend of Wukong were dumped!
« on: February 25, 2013, 09:17:59 PM »
These famous unlicensed titles were finally dumped by bootsector and Edi (FZ20).
I don't have links for these ROMs yet - but the dumpers themselves said both games are availabe on "Sega Forever" message board.

Enjoy! :D

Yeah, someone mentioned in the old Star Odyssey thread that they were dumped.  Anyway, there was a notice here put up that publishing commercial ROMs (i.e. the SFT stuff) isn't allowed.

Well, I guess we won't be seeing a reprint run of any of those carts soon.

to my knowledge, only Star Odyssey is still sold (and Pier Solar)

OTOH Beggar Prince and Legend of Wukong have been sold out for a few years now, so I doubt they can be marked as still commercial... so I'm very happy these dumps got finally released :)

None of the Sega Genesis SFT games are being sold currently. I've sent Mr. Cobb an email asking when they will be available for sell again. I was promptly ignored (but he took the chance to add my email address to his newsletter). Prices on eBay for these games are also ridiculous, so I thought it was a good time to release these.

Despite how I may have sounded earlier, I do appreciate the dumps.  I arrived late to the SFT games so I missed out on Beggar Prince, and I'm sure as hell not paying hundreds of dollars to some asshole Ebay guy for a copy.  I would totally buy a copy if more prints of the game were made, don't get me wrong.

for the record, they should now work also in MESS if you compile it from latest svn source, or if you wait until tomorrow and get the new build from http://bobz38.free.fr/mess_autobuild/index.php

known issue in MESS: Beggar Prince save system does not work yet...

That SUCKS :([/quote]In all fairness the guy owns the current rights to them, so you can't be mad at them for protecting their own interests.

(Not that you didn't know that, nor is this a potshot at you.)

Well, this is mighty impressive, I must say. I still wish I could own a copy of Beggar Prince and Legend of Wukong myself, but I don't think they'll be making any more copies anytime soon. But hey, you never know. :)

I've never played any version of either of these games, so maybe someone who has can shed some insight.

I know one of the reasons these two games were chosen by SFT to be translated and released for Western audiences was the lack of reused/stolen/unauthorized content when compared to other MD games.

Are there any assets like music, FX, sprites, or other stuff that are straight-up lifted from other licensed games? If so, was any of that changed for the SFT release?

What about the music, does it have recycle stuff from previous unlicensed MD games?
