Pirate Talk / Anyone needs Mortal Kombat II 256K rip?!
« on: October 07, 2010, 07:55:16 AM »
I have discovered that ripped version of Hummer's Mortal Kombat II long ago on 1000000-in-1 multicart, yet I decided to make it a separate ROM only now. I know it may be little use due to the fact there is A LOT of alternate versions of this game, but still, should I do the ROM extraction just for the collection?

Some technical info about this in a nutshell. Basically, it's the hack of Mortal Kombat III, MKII on mapper four, but instead of using 256-128 KB data storage, it exploits 128-128 KB, also used in a plenty of licensed games and crappy Yoko's Mortal Kombat Trilogy. Still bugs me why do the pirate use THIS game for the reproductiions rather than this one... Whatever. The fighters' sprites remain as they were, although the backgrounds were bastardized badly. So badly that the Throne Room has... THREE SKANG-TSUNGS. Awesomesource.

Spoiler: click to toggle

Hummer's Aladdin - awesomely done port. Music, visuals, controls - they all got it right (if you forget about the lack of cutscenes). I bet even Capcom couldn't be able to manage this on the NES...

Super Aladdin - pretty much the same s*** as with Super Lion King. What I don't like there really though is the clunky controls (which were A LOT better in the same SLK thing).

Super Lion King - my first pirate original, and, you guessed it, it deserves its' place in my list not only because of that...

Somari - JP would disagree with me, but it's a lot better than Jurassic Boy 2. Also, I wonder why Sonic fans are cocky so much that they can't even hack Somari into something awesome.

Super Mario World - terrible jumping. Lacks one music track. Has a barely performable jump section closer to the ending. And lacks some bosses. In the rest, it's fine.

Kart Fighter - still don't get it why many people find even OBVIOUSLY good sides of this game horrible. Maybe trolling, eh?

World Hero/Street Fighter III - fluid engine, state-of-the-god graphics... now they both need great music and more developed VS mode.

And that's not all. Yet.

That can be translated easier... Cheap Profit Syndrome.

The third track in Xin Qin Yi is OBVIOUSLY Nakoruru's theme (Samurai Shodown, in case if you're wonderin').

Was recently going to finish my review of San Guo Zhi: Qun Xiong Zheng Ba, but in order to make the review complete, I need to have every fighter's name translation. Can't do it myself because, y'know, my head will go dizzy when I'll try to compare one symbol with another  especially with those dialects... brrr. Therefore, I'll be grateful to anyone who affords help, with credit given.

All six playable characters:

Ehrm, what does it say above?

Two conquest mode-only characters (on the right):

For me Harry's Legend was made by Hummer Team, the changes are to important to be a simple hack by another developpers. They wouldn't have noticed some stuff.
Moment. Wasn't Hummer Team the part of the ABAB Soft at the moment? All I think about is that ABAB simply rehashed their existing game. Haven't these bastards reused some music from (maybe) their EWJ3?

Also the fact that Harry's Legend is a MMC3 game ! It was dumped in 2003 so it's more likely companies got it in their hand after CaH4e3 released it.

Well there are no ending on a fighting game so you cannot prove anythign that Silvers Lin didn't programmed these.
I'm gonna ask CaH4e3 if he modified the mapper, because.. well, he did that on Panda World.

And too bad there's no even buried credits in HL...

Realtec made a 60-pin Game Genie, I guess they probably sold that.. weird that the picture shows a 72 pin version though.
You've been warned they could  use that from the Joystick or Joypad magazines.

No idea. But, if they have real SEGA MegaDrives imported (alongside with bootlegged ones), why not?
