Hey, I just wanted to let the staff know that the forum doesn't want to load if the browser automatically attempts to upgrade the connection to https. It will definitely put new members off when they're greeted with a big fat security warning from their browser, so turning this site https would probably be for the better.

Discussion Center / Worst Bootlet Pokémon Card
« on: September 11, 2023, 12:35:24 PM »
I was just browsing ebay when I came across possibly the worst fake Pokémon card I've ever seen.

Literally nothing makes sense here. What is that fricking wall border, the classic 520HP, it literally evolves from Magnemite and the icon is just the card image scaled down. The pokédex entry at the bottom is also hilarious.

How did people even consider falling for these xD

Game Boy / Connection between Game USA and other games
« on: May 04, 2023, 11:21:27 AM »
Hi folks,

so I've been looking at lost of PCBs lately and noticed a common theme for some of them.
Game USA multicarts seem to always have three main features:
1. The ID is printed on the PCB with black ink
2. There is always some long string of characters printed directly on the PCB
3. There is always a four digit number using a font that resembles the standard 7-segment display

Now the weird thing is that I've also begun to find those indicators on other cartridges' PCBs that don't have the Game USA label attached to them.

Could this mean they were all made by the same company or am I overthinking this and the latter 2 features are very generic, i.e. not specific to one manufacturer?

Here's some images of Game USA multicart PCBs with the three features mentioned above:

https://www.jensma.de/pirates/?show=bootleg&id=139

And now some of the other, seemingly unrelated carts with the same marks:

I hope anyone here has any idea if they're related or if something similar to this has been known to occur for other brands or systems...

BootlegGames Wiki / Spoilers Block?
« on: May 01, 2023, 09:52:59 AM »
Hey again,
I was wondering if there's a way to add something like a spoiler block to a wiki page that reveals more text only after clicking on it? I couldn't find an option for that but maybe there is...

Game Boy / Pokemon Gold Pocket Monsters (ROM hack)
« on: April 28, 2023, 04:01:43 AM »
Hey, first time posting here!

So I recently started digging around my multicarts and found a strange version of Pokemon Gold on one of them and was wondering if anyone has heard of it. It seems to be a ROM hack of the English version of Pokemon Gold but with the intro being changed along with the dialogues and the Pokemon not having their official names. The game displays "Pokemon World" on startup instead of the Gamefreak logo and Nintendo's credit has been replaced by "PiKACHU". The game uses the original title screen but the text says "Pokemon GOLD Pocket Monsters" and Nintendo's copyright is once again overwritten by "PiKACHU".

Is this a known hack in the community? I'm going to try and document this with a page on the wiki so if anyone has any further information on the game I'd appreciate it.

Also here's some pictures I took of the startup sequence and the screen where you choose your name (notice how the font is smaller but bold, compared to Pokemon's usual font).
