Where will you be releasing the archives when they're complete?
Here's the first bunch, just for you. Sorry for taking so long; but Sports Game 69-in-1 had kept me confused for a while. The archive also includes the decrypted WXN ROMs with working NES headers.

Unless indicated otherwise, all extracted individual games are completely unmodified, apart from setting the NES header to workable values. The "Boot with Frame IRQ disabled" option mentioned in a few !notes.txt files will be available in the upcoming release of my private Nintendulator build. That should not be a problem however, as I have provided patched ROMs for every such case.

One more thing: The Sport 130-in-1 (DGUN-2500) ROM image commonly available is 32 MiB large, but it turns out that it's just twice the same 16 MiB.

As far as my progress is concerned, I'm still having trouble extracting the Jungletac games from their respective multicarts, so those may not come in a while.

Famicom/NES dumps / Extracted Magical Tower, Worm Visitor/Frog Adventure
« on: December 10, 2017, 06:51:48 AM »
I am not sure whether somebody else has already extracted these three Sachen games that only seem to have appeared on the Super Cartridge 8, but here they are. You may have noticed that Sachen removed the year numbers from all their multicart releases. Since their tile data remains, I took the liberty of restoring the year number and place it where I think seems plausible.

Also, Frog Adventure is basically Worm Visitor with one flag byte changed. The original cart, if there ever was one, must have had some kind of DIP switch functionality to achieve this.

I have not played these extensively, so if you notice that they glitch on later levels, tell me.

Famicom/NES dumps / MiWi2 (VT168) Dumping Attempt

I cannot even get the VT168 demo ROM to run in EmuVT --- I only get sound, no picture.

The VT168 specification states that in addition to the external program ROM, there are also 4 KiB of embedded ROM which could be for "BIOS, security". It appears in CPU address space at $3000-$3FFF.

Either way, since the VT168 is not NES-compatible, I don't think I will be able to add VT168 support to Nintendulator without turning the entire main program upside down.

Famicom/NES / CoolBaby versus CoolBoy
« on: December 08, 2017, 01:51:20 PM »
I am a bit confused about CoolBaby versus CoolBoy. The CoolBoy 400-in-1 multicart shows the characters of Ren Shun at the top, yet the wiki reads as if Fuzhou CoolBoy and Shenzen Ren Shun are separate unrelated companies. Are they?

That ROM image uses a custom mapper register in addition to OneBus hardware, either for copy protection purposes, or simply to make it easier to put the larger games on a multicart. Either way, I will implement it as Mapper 270 in the next release of my personal Nintendulator build. That will of course mean that this cart as well will not run as a .BIN image.

In the meantime, you should be able to play most of the same VT03 games on the "Sport 130-in-1 (DGUN-2500)" multicart, which is already supported by the Nintendulator build that I already released.

When do you think that update will be released?
The way I see this developing is that in order to test the feature, I will need to extract every individual game anyway, so it will be more efficient for me to post all individual games, one archive per multicart, and leave it to you to sort them out.

And would that be able to get games out from "protected" multicarts, where certain games can't be removed from the menu at all?
Not quite sure what you mean, but individual games extracted from copy-protected multicarts will still bear the copy protection and so must be run under the same (sub)mapper as the multicart. I had no problems extracting all 30 games from Power Joy Supermax 30-in-1. Some games use different reset offsets within the same individual ROM (e.g. Primitive Man vs. Primitive Woman), so for these games, I needed to patch the reset offset in one of the two variants. But that was no big deal.

It's in too early a stage for that.

Nintendulator does have a debugger, although not as fully-featured as FCEUX'.

I have already started a function that extracts individual games from multicarts automatically, using the PRG bank mask register.

Famicom/NES / Nintendulator with VT03/VT09 support
« on: December 06, 2017, 03:21:17 PM »
I used VR Technology's datasheets. They contained almost all of the necessary information, albeit a bit cryptic and obviously machine-translated from Chinese into English. The VT09 is almost identical to the VT03. It adds 2 KiB of additional main memory and arranges the graphics data a bit differently in ROM.

FCEUX already supports the VT02 mapper. The VT03 extensions, which FCEUX does not emulate, affect the PPU (graphics chip) emulation, not the mapper. As for open source, I will post the source code at some point to nesdev.

130-in-1 is not copy-protected, so it was not included in that download link for that reason. How are the sports games not supported? You need to configure and use the second controller to play most of them.

Famicom/NES / Nintendulator with VT03/VT09 support
« on: December 02, 2017, 02:01:53 PM »
I have added VT03/VT09 support to my private build of Nintendulator. Download it here. It runs all games that EmuVT 1.36 runs, plus a few copy-protected OneBus images that EmuVT cannot run. As far as I know, it is also first in running the VT09 ROMs such as Classic Max Lite and VG Pocket/Mini/Tablet. Furthermore, it emulates the additional sound channels that EmuVT does not emulate. In addition to .NES files, it also runs OneBus .UNF, .BIN and .WXN files natively, as long as they're not copy-protected.

Being still a work-in-progress, VT03 modes are only supported in the actual emulator, not the "Debug->Video" window. Copy-protected OneBus images cannot be run in .BIN or .UNF format, because the copy protection type needs to be specified. The .NES 2.0 header's submapper field is used for that.

Also, do not try to run .WXN files converted to .NES or .BIN format; use the original .WXN files instead. (If you must run .WXN files converted to .NES, then most Waixing games use Mapper 176, while most other games use mapper 256, submapper 1.)

final version?
Naah. There's a whole world of VT03 hacks of many of these games to be discovered, extracted and catalogized. :)
