That's neat, I think this is the first time ever seeing an NES emulator of any sort on the SNES, right? That's pretty impressive.

Yeah, it's a pity that whoever made it couldn't hire a decent composer to remake the soundtracks. :P

There are a few homebrew NES -> SNES ports kicking around, IIRC they're all pretty decent but they lack sound.. I guess it must have been relatively easy to get NES code running on the SNES (I doubt it's emulation as such) for everything except sound. and that Tetris clone is interesting, looks like an entirely new game..

The sound processor, on the other hand, is wildly different... which would explain how the game engine could be ported so easily, but the sound engine not so easily.
Also, between this cart, the Taiwanese original games such as Big 2, and the Gamars copier BIOS, I get a distinct impression that there must've been some dev kit that included the Super Pang sound code.

In that case, I'm surprised that Nintendo didn't end up milking that idea by porting all of the black box NES games to the SNES with updated sound or something.

Also, I'm willing to bet that Super Pang used whatever sound code the Super Famicom/SNES dev kit came with.

Something interesting - my Firecore console which plays mega drive games and also has some famicom games built in, with similarly screwed up audio.

Now if AtGames could be bothered to fix the awful sound emulation I'd probably buy of their clones.

yeah I have something similar, as far as I know it has a separate Famiclone board inside (even though the Firecore hardware is actually an emulator running on some ARM based chip, so it could easily emulate the Famicom too.. don't ask me why AtGames do what they do, theyre a weird bunch). The sound seems OK on mine, they're mostly Nice Code games though.
the MD compatibility still sucks though, I was hoping I'd be able to play the Legend of Wukong English version on it because its the only undumped Mega Drive game I own, but it just flickers between a SRAM error screen and the Famiclone menu when I try it.

I want to get hold of one of Qi Sheng Long's portable MD clones, since hopefully they have TecToy chips in them like their 2-in-1 and 3-in-1 systems, but I can't find anywhere selling them. I asked volumerates and they said they'd look into it, no results yet though.

I just discovered something interesting: the music from that weird Colosoftwares famiclone linked in post 42 is ripped from somewhere else. Namely, Codemasters' "Linus Spacehead's Cosmic Crusade"-- it's tune #5 in the NSF.

I wonder if those were, in fact, actually ported by Codemasters?

Edit: Or it might just be that they hired that game's original composer, Allister Brimble. Wouldn't surprise me; he's done music programming for plug-and-play consoles before.

I don't think Codemasters itself would be involved with making that plug 'n play system. From my understanding, it's relatively easy porting a Commodore 64 game to a Famiclone because of the similar hardware, and a skilled programmer could probably do that on their own.

If anything, what I don't get is the connection between that plug 'n play and the menu it uses. It seems to use some generic menu similar to a lot of the ones that 64scener posted, but those are all generic Famicom multicarts produced by various companies. The composer is obviously different and as pointed out in that post, the background is ripped off.

it seems kinda possible that Colosoftwares hooked up with Allister Brimble somehow, but I think if that music got there legitimately it would have been down to Brimble alone. I don't think Codemasters itself (being a big company at that point) would have got involved with a lone programmer porting his old games to old hardware for a semi-bootleggy Chinese company.

as for the menu, probably just a generic one Macro Winners made themselves, I guess.

Tweeterman287 got his hands on one of those PVP Stations. And alas, "Super Mario Bros. & Felix the Cat" is simply the title screen to a multicart containing both games. (Felix being the official Hudson Soft one, not Dragon's knockoff.)

Edit: Also, the music on the "999999-in-1" cart in the above-linked video sounds like something by Nice Code. I think I've seen that same menu design on a Nice Code multicart, so yeah...

I've yet to see the menu used anywhere else (it's probably used on the PVP cart I have, but that doesn't work anyway) aside from an alternate version of that 105-in-1 ROM that's included with the OneBus development kit. Then again, the one used there doesn't work properly because it freezes randomly and crashes when you try to access the last 5 games.

Recently, DealExtreme have started selling (what are presumably) PVP Station systems which run both Famicom and Mega Drive games. What confuses me is the menu on the left in the screenshots; the game names definitely suggest 16-bit, but the artwork is stolen from Sonic 3D Blast 5 as opposed to the game it's based off. As for the other menu, I don't get the "FMB-03" ID on that menu, but I'm guessing there's other versions of the system that have different games. Also, I'm not sure how many games are built-in but it's definitely not 586. :P

There's also an alternate version which has a couple of hacks called Backkom and Little Krishna 3.
