So I recently bought a Game Genie and I told SMWHacker (he was really interested to hack it), after about one hour of searching for the title screen (adresses are likely moved further), he decided to try to make the code to summon enemies in the game, it worked and I tryed (with his help) almost all values that are strange in HL, we flound 3 unused enemies and more floating unused stuff (that goes with water).

The first one was a FF3 like enemy trowing bombs at the character, it is half working. You must hit him once before the bombs are exploding and I think the bombs only have a very small hitbox that appear only for about 1 or 2 frames.

(The game is being played on a PAL NES, so the picture is streched and colors are a bit different)

The next one is a gunner, he looks like a spy or some guard, 2 palettes exists like the 1st one.

And now is the oddest enemy ever seen in a pirate game I think:
It's some kind of lizard that jumps around and spins at the same times (once it starts, it never stops). If it is summoned on the ground, you can see it walking then starting to spin and starting to jumps. It is almost finished, it can hit me but I can't. I think it is fully animated, maybe it was supposed to land after a while, or I don't know.

Wow, nice find! And the unravelling of titenic continues.. Those are actually very cool ideas for enemies on a NES adventure/fighting game!

LOL That spinning lizard is hilarious! But I wonder what about Titanic inspired that monster?.. I dont remember any spinning lizards xD

Well SmwHacker88 and I went further in the game coding and we found quite some good stuff:
One unused font
2 numbers which are 2 tiles big: (0 and 1)
the game has 3 (maybe 4) hearths, one is used in JACK, another by ROSE, the last one (?) is a broken hearth. We think the game was supposed to do some kind of animations and if you die the hearth would be broken.

The best: the game was supposed to have a title screen mock-up like FF3 in game, it is present complete in the CHR but never used, it is loaded with the HUD graphics.

1st: the hearths (green); You can see the top of "TITENI" (NITENITE...); under the EEEEEE, there's some odd stuff. Bottom, there's some CCC, then you can see the bottom of  T I T E)
2nd: a cutscene palette or title screen one.
3rd: bottom part of E, N, I
4th: bottom part of C
5th: 2 hearths with a correct palette
6th: the unused font

Keep posting:

There's an hidden HUANG and HOANG in the HUD programming. There's also "A" which is very likely a placeholder for another character.
We also found PLAYER SELECT (SELECT is glitched because it's off the HUD).

We also found an unused JACK pose.

Well A is actually for PRESS A (for player 2). I was able to see the names of all people I summoned, the maid is called "ANY", The sailor is "BOATER", the boss is just called "BOSS". We weren't able to summon other enemies. But I guess it works for all of them.

The title screen music is the same as Harry !

And the game had a save feature !!

My guess is that the save feature was originally in Titenic and then got cut out for the multicart release. That said, I think the only way to know for sure is to find a copy of it.
