Pirate Talk / Old new dumps thread (don't use this anymore!)
« on: February 15, 2011, 12:27:43 PM »

we now have separate forums for new dumps! please post them in there instead.

Famicom/NES dumps
Game Boy dumps
Mega Drive/Genesis dumps
Super Famicom/SNES dumps
Other dumps

just starting a thread to keep track of new ROM dumps released for any console.. they show up in obscure places sometimes, its easy to miss them. sometimes i only know a rom exists when someone posts a video of it on youtube. :D

a few sites that are generally worth looking, for people that don't already know about them:
cah4e3's stuff
Kamming's Garden
maxzhou88
tszone
feel free to recommend any additions to this list.

and heres a recent one i came across elsewhere, apparently released in january but i had no idea.
War in the Gulf - http://www.nintendoage.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=7&threadid=44370

and heres tszone's most recent releases:
Naruto, Dragonball & Saint Seiya by Nanjing: http://hi.baidu.com/tszone_fc/blog/item/3b0f9b51d554cf9c8d5430f7.html
Jing Hua Yuan by Waixing:
http://hi.baidu.com/tszone_fc/blog/item/5da57bc2cea7fe26e4dd3baa.html
& also Sai Wai Qi Xia Chuan by Hengge Dianzi, but this one was only released on NESBBS - you need an account to download, and as far as i can tell you need an invite code from an existing member to join. so i dunno if its possible for anyone here to get it.

anyone played this? it was dumped by tszone recently: http://hi.baidu.com/tszone_fc/blog/item/5da57bc2cea7fe26e4dd3baa.html / http://tszone.ys168.com/
its a weird action game by Waixing, sort of like a cross between Contra and a conventional platform game. With an overworld. and lots of ripped graphics. and music using the Contra sound engine that sounds a lot like Jungletac's - I think the map screen music at least is actually used in some Jungletac games.

Famicom/NES / Space Fight of Gun, Fantasy of Gun & Abyss of Gloom
« on: February 08, 2011, 04:59:13 PM »
found this video via lost levels: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B8iVoeWYsD4
from a 101 in 1 multicart i've seen a few times before (a Dynavision one i think) - it has these three original games, Space Fight of Gun, Fantasy of Gun and Abyss of Gloom. i've seen screenshots before but this is the first time i've seen them on video.. and Space Fight of Gun uses the character select screen music from Street/Super Fighter III. maybe these are from the same mysterious developers? or someone else that just happened to steal their sound engine. i dunno.

Other Pirates / Conny
« on: January 27, 2011, 09:54:31 PM »
well i noticed NusuttoSan/Qiezei/Mr. Burglar posted a couple of videos from the Conny PDC (Pocket Dream Console):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IMYGkyD0n5w Piggy's Adventure
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2VgcGGaaII B.P. (Bomb Princess)
theyre a company i've been kinda curious about for a while, so i guess now would be as good a time as any to post something about them.

Conny seems to be a bit more legit than most Chinese console makers, TakaraTomy distributed a version of the PDC in Japan and I assume they wouldnt get involved with any shady bootleggers. plus their PuzzLoop clone, Joe Ma 2, is actually licensed by Mitchell Corp (makers of the original game), which not even PopCap bothered to do. although the HUD font in Piggys Adventure does seem to be ripped from Rayman, but hey.

their website hasnt been updated for a long time, but it does list some awesome sounding stuff like "PNP Steeling Wheel" and "TV Virtual Frighter". but actually the French distributor Videojet is a way better source of information, they have much newer consoles listed - including some with a touch screen - and (low-res, but still) videos of every single game on them.

Conny also made a Wii clone, the Q3, which has actual accelerometers and stuff- there seems to be an early version with 5-ish sports games built in, which is available on DealExtreme, and a later one with 40 (presumably the other 35 are non-motion stuff from the PDCs, but i'm not sure)

Pirate Talk / PCB codes
« on: January 08, 2011, 09:11:19 PM »
ive recently, for no particular reason, been looking inside most of my famiclones (and other chinese consoles) to see if I can tell anything from the shit printed on the PCB.

these three were pretty expected based on who i already thought was the manufacturer:

iSports: SB-256-H06 2008/8/12 (main pcb) SB-58-H2 2009/3/25 (sub pcb).
SB = Subor presumably

Wow Wireless Gaming: XA-VII-2 2008.6.25 (main pcb, dunno if theres another, i just looked in through the flap).
XA = Xinan Industry Co. Ltd. (Power King HK). and the "VII" makes sense since it looks identical to the 8bit Vii, which they also make.

88 Games joystick: BS-012R4, 04.04.02
BS is in Macro Winners's logo and this joystick was on their website, so that makes sense.

Trump Grand stuff:

Power Joy (earlier model): XD-VTA, 13121 (main pcb) XD-11.PCB (sub pcb)
Excalibur 101 in 1: XD3047 R1.1

I dunno what XD stands for but its on both my TG consoles (well I havent checked my Power Joy Supermax because it was a bitch to get the other Power Joy closed again, but its probably there too) - maybe the initials of their factory in china?

Jungletac stuff:

VG Pocket Caplet: VG4003IC V9, 2006-08-14 VER:09, VG4003-192M
OneStation: M-120 VER:03, TOPPOLY-40P, 2006.08.02

no obvious connection there, I guess they use different codes for each product (VG presumably refers to VG Pocket). one thing that did strike me though is that Jungletac's PCBs look much cleaner, better made, generally more professional than the other companies' shite.

others:

Ping Pong by ABL: PP1100-MB, 061110 - PP obviously stands for Ping Pong, so just a product code again

Famicom yarou 54: XJBL2 - no idea. dunno who even manufactured this thing. theres a similar looking thing on Cheer Tech's website - its not exactly the same but its clearly just an artists impression, so they might have changed the design a bit for the final product.

FC Game Console: TF2309A1 - again no idea, as far as I know its manufactured by Qi Sheng Long though

Pirate Talk / Jungletac!
« on: January 01, 2011, 03:29:22 PM »
starting a thread for all things jungletac, to continue the discussion from the Wii clone one:

codeman38

And although it's not a Wii knockoff, it's too good not to mention: the Zone Fusion, which is another of those mysterious vertically-oriented Jungletac handhelds.
taizou

& I found this the other day - its another version of the Zone Fusion I think, with a game list + screenshots:
http://cybertoy.ru/joom/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=17&Itemid=2
(although cybertoy's website is just about the slowest thing ever at the moment)
codeman38

"Abey's Dream"? Yep, totally the stuff that NiceCode made for JungleTac. (And those are the best screenshots I've seen of those so far!)
Something else interesting I just noticed, though: The GC12 PocketGame (discussed in the NiceCode thread) uses what sounds like 16-bit music. The Zone Fusion, on the other hand, uses the NES sound chip, with typical JungleTac-sounding music. Same games, same developer, same chassis... same processor, even, as far as I know. Weird.

Edit: Nope, not the same chassis. The PocketGame is the same chassis as the Classic Pocket, but the Zone Fusion is rounder. Either way, the Fusion is definitely not your standard Famiclone games, though.
from the looks of things the PocketGame is a rebranded version of the vertical console from this page:
http://www.jungletac.com/Classic_Max.asp
I guess the Classic Pocket and Fusion are later versions with more games but NES sound hardware for some reason.
heres another variation:
http://www.premier-portfolio.net/product.asp?numPageStartPosition=1&P_ID=348&strPageHistory=cat&strKeywords=&strSearchCriteria=&PT_ID=112

heres a version of the original 12-game horizontal one on ebay, which I'm slightly tempted to buy because I'm kind of a sucker for Mr Driller, and North Salvation looks like a clone of just that:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HANDHELD-12-ARCADE-GAMES-COLOUR-CONSOLE-RRP-35-00-/280599630162#ht_2267wt_708
but it seems like there are also updated 30-game versions of that, which I wouldnt be surprised to find use NES sound hardware too:
http://www.geniusnet.com/geniusOnline/upload/support/eCatalogue/gaming/Heeha%20100_PA.pdf
http://cybertoy.ru/joom/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=18&Itemid=2

edit: looks like some of the screenshots on Genius's page are actually from the 8bit versions of the games (like Worm Catch, the one with SMB graphics) but the graphics are updated in Cybertoy's .. dunno what to make of that, maybe Jungletac just sent Genius the wrong screenshots or something.

Pirate Talk / Cube Technology
« on: December 28, 2010, 06:25:04 PM »
I just came across this while looking for info on some of those VRT systems - a company from Shenzhen called Cube Technology (立方科技有限公司) which claimed to have "16bit TV game ,100 different types of games." this led me to their alibaba page naming Wise Wang as a contact .. and how could I forget a fantastic name like that. its the same person named in the EmuVT emulator credited to DJ-Jungle. unfortunately there was no sign of a website at that point, until I found this, which lists it as www.cubetac.com (and also claims they develop "18-bit" games. hmm). but that's down.

What isnt down is their new site: http://tec-cube.com
complete with a game list! so it looks like we have a developer for those weird games from the MiWi. *and* apparently the hacks from the Arcade Action 101 in 1 etc, even the ones credited to Macro Winners or Inventor (which is kinda odd, because the MW ones definitely seem to have been created by a different team.. maybe they obtained the, uh, "rights" to Inventor's hacks in 2004 somehow and just set about making some of their own to add to the set?).

btw I love that even the game list on their damn website has repeats in it.. and unmodified copies of japanese games mixed in there (Volleyball even still says "Nintendo" in the screenshot). old habits die hard i guess :D

now judging from the fact that Wise Wang works for them, and they were at some point called "Cubetac", I wonder if this company is some kind of offshoot from Jungletac.. their website does say (via google translate) "The team was founded in 2004, 2008, changed its name registered as "cubic Technology Limited." ". so the team might have existed within Jungletac before going off on its own.

theres also a seemingly connected company called Shenzhen Biikoo (深圳市碧空科技有限公司) which, in all english sources, seems to be a manufacturer of various telecommunications stuff, but Chinese pages like this one mention game development for various VT systems. old archived versions of their no longer existent website seem to show them only moving into games in 2008 (and even mentions EmuVT) so maybe, for some reason, the ex-jungletac people had connections within Biikoo and used that as kinda launchpad for Cubetac/Cube Technology?

69
well I think my days of having absolutely no idea who really made these things may be over.
I was actually just about to post this topic saying theyre probably by Shenzhen Nanjing, based on these:
http://en.sznanjing.com.cn/Default.aspx?PN=ruanjian_page&ps=&pID=33088
http://en.sznanjing.com.cn/Default.aspx?PN=ruanjian_page&ps=&pID=34300
http://en.sznanjing.com.cn/Default.aspx?PN=ruanjian_page&ps=&pID=34299
& these:
http://www.sznanjing.com.cn/Default.aspx?PN=products&TypeID=8164&ItemIndex=3&Tip=1
http://www.sznanjing.com.cn/Default.aspx?PN=products&TypeID=8165&ItemIndex=3&Tip=1
(incidentally Nanjing's site lists some 16bit sport games that I've never seen *anywhere*, but thats possibly something for another topic)
but that still seemed a bit odd since many of them are copyright 2002, and Nanjing was, according to their site, only founded in 2003. one of those is the 2002 World Cup PK game on Nanjing's site, which maxzhou88 mentioned working on .. so I checked out his blog post on the subject (the original plans were pretty impressive, proper accelerometer based motion control four years before the Wii) which names the software developer as 西安东信软件开发公司, Xi'an Dong Xin Software Development Co. or.. Nice Code Software! (and Nanjing's site actually mentions a development partner in Xi'an)

their website doesnt have a comprehensive list of games but there are a few for each console type, and many of the ones under 8-bit and "VT03" (the enhanced colour famiclone system) are unsurprisingly (what I previously thought to be) Trump/QSL games. the VT03 version of Twin Fish even has a Power Joy copyright. so I think we may have found the developer! they do also list some of those hacked Dragon Co games, Dragon was based in Xi'an too so Nice Code could be some kind successor I suppose..

not only that, one of the 8 bit games listed is Nanjing's Tomb Raider, so it seems like Nanjing has been outsourcing to this company even for its RPGs. AND one of their VT168 games, "Abey's Dream", has a Jungle Soft copyright visible in the screenshot, while another, Dingle Hunt appears on some obscure vertical Jungletac console (one has been on eBay for what seems like far too much money for a while now), so it seems like this company worked for Jungletac too .. which would presumably explain both the Cyber Arcade Centre and those Jungletac games with Nanjing music (or vice versa). And some of their 8-bit games appearing in slightly modified form under Waixing makes a lot more sense knowing theres an external developer behind them.

2000-present / Famiclones with Frogger/Asteroids etc
« on: December 05, 2010, 08:36:57 PM »
I seem to recall quite a few years ago, back when famiclones were still full of original NES/Famicom games instead of dodgy hacks or terrible originals, some of them mixed in original ports of Frogger and Asteroids (and possibly other arcade games?) along with the usual stuff. I think it might have been a Super Joy or something, but I can't find any info. anyone know anything about these?

2000-present / Arcade Action II 101 in 1
« on: November 22, 2010, 12:42:20 AM »
cah4e3 dumped another one of my carts, the Arcade Action II 101 in 1, containing 1 original(?) game, F22 (a shooter, with an.. interesting intro), and 60ish hacks:
http://cah4e3.shedevr.org.ru/dumping_2010.php
you'll need the latest version of FCEU from his site.

F22 crashes at the end of the first level, which I guess is an emulation problem - I just sent him an email about that, so we'll see. also its sound effects are a bit off, probably for the same reason the menu music is - it apparently has duplicate sound hardware (which isnt emulated yet). this is what the menu sounds like on real hardware:

Game Boy / Street Fighter Zero 4

something i just stumbled across. found it on sale on ruten first, then googled it, someone has pics on flickr (no gameplay shots though):
http://www.flickr.com/photos/keatonx2/tags/streetfighterzero4/
doesn't look like its running on one of the usual pirate fighting engines, judging from the back of the box at least.

Other Pirates / Generic Wii clone thread
« on: November 12, 2010, 01:10:36 AM »
that thread on the MiWi Xtra inspired me to have a look around ebay for some Wii clones (I even bought one. but its not here yet.)
there are probably 100s of different and ridiculous names these things have been released under, like MiWii2, NiMiWi2, WiNi, Wiii3, SWii, My Play, MiSport, EZi, itek, MiZone, Vimax, X-wei and many many more, but i've found there are basically two major lines:

MiWi! ~ Games by Waixing. Hardware by Subor? Maybe. see below.
&
WiWi! ~ Games by Trump Grand or whoever the hell makes all those terrible famiclone games.

they both use some kind of 16-bit hardware as far as I can tell, and most of the wii clones you'll see in the wild are gonna be either of these. sometimes rebranded, sometimes with a different case, sometimes with a different selection of games.

now the odd thing here is the Miwi I and Wiwi I look identical, except the controllers (thats an easy way to tell with rebranded clones if youre really looking at a Miwi or a Wiwi - Miwis have 2 face buttons, Wiwis have 4). I dunno what that's about. Maybe they're made in the same factory with different software installed? Or maybe one just ripped off the other's design. That happens a lot.

few other notable ones include:
 • iSports - Definitely Subor. there are a few different models - the standard 16-bit ones have pretty much the same Waixing software as Miwis. theres also a 32-bit iSports Pro, and the iFit, which is kinda mat-based. they all seem to have different names in China though.
 • Sport Vii - the famous one. by jungletac/kensington. possibly the first, and possibly the only one to actually have 2.4G (not infrared) and some degree of actual motion control (rather than just treating any sharp movement as another button like the crap ones do). shame it didn't catch on really.
 • Zone - just some distributor's brand name, they use it on a few different companies' products. the Zone is basically a Miwi, Zone 40 has Waixing games, Zone 60 seems to be Jungletac (the non-sport games at least, the sport games are different to the Sport Vii's), Zone Family Fit is Subor's iFit, Zone Sega (renamed Sega Reactor for some reason) is by AtGames, and I dunno about the Zone Interactive.
 • 8-bit Vii is just weird.

ooh and not forgetting the WiWi is by Hamy, aka Qi Sheng Long (see this thread, website @ http://www.qishenglong.com/) which holds the copyright on a bunch of those Trump Grand games.
