Title: Pirate ports you'd LOVE to see
Post by: Ray of Lightning on September 01, 2012, 03:46:48 PM
Recently, we've been seeing games like Angry Birds and Plants vs Zombies grace the Famicom. It's very simple, gentlegamers, what games would you love to see ported up/down?

For me, it'd have to be Streets of Rage 2, preferably on the NES.  :yay:

I'd be interested to see what would have happened if Hummer Team ported Sonic 2 and 3 to the Famicom out of morbid curiosity. :P

It'd be nice to see some more genuine efforts to port Sonic games, instead of lazy and grotesque looking hacks. :\
Oh, and Yong Yong's games don't count. (They keep coming up, they do. x3)

Oh, and a Guitar Hero II port just to hear what Yes We Can would sound like in 8-bit.

If pirates tried to port these to older consoles, I really would like to see them, if not for any other reason than to laugh at them.

-Harvester (PC)
-Bloodwings: Pumpkinhead's Revenge (PC)
-VVVVVV (Various Consoles)
-Super Meat Boy (PC)
-Minecraft (Various Consoles)
-Contra 4 (DS)
-Super Mario RPG (SNES)
-Banjo Kazooie (N64)
-Conker's Bad Fur Day (N64)
-Red Dead Revolver (PS2)
-Michael Jackson's Moonwalker (Genesis)
-Knuckles Chaotix (32X)

I'd be here all night if I listed all I wanted to see.

Somehow I imagine it'd be something like the Dragon's Lair port the GBC which wasn't a bad port at all, although it sacrificed music.

I've actually thought that a GBC/GBA port of a NIS game (Makai Kingdom/Disgaea, perhaps?) would be cool.  I imagine they would be ported by V.Fame and using a variation of the Sacred Story engine.  Other than that...Ports of the Mother/Earthbound series to the NES/GBC.  I know they did ports to the GBA, but I'm curious about what a proper GBC port would be like...

But yeah, I could imagine this being ported down well enough, if in the right hands -- the right hands.

What about final fantasy 8? I think they would like stop at the royal assassination part. Because they don't have a lot of space. But somebody should port it to like gbc or whatever. I don't know a lot about rom development. They better put the music in the game as well. Not some rip off from another game. I like it when they try to remake it manually.

Another thought that I've had a while that I never posted...Some proper ports of Sachen's NES games to the Game Boy Color.  I know they technically did with games like Magic Maze and Magical Tower, but it'd be neat to see proper ports of games such as Rockball and Auto Upturn (granted with design tweaks and whatnot, but still.)

You're right about the Sachen ports. They didn't make my port (Rocman X, of course) for the GBC very accurate! I hated it! I mean, where are the shops? Why are the level designs shrunk to fit the vertical length of the NES? Why do I have a gun and not a boomerang, and why not be able to fly or shoot directional? Where are the coins? Where are the cutscenes? Why can you access all 5 stages from the start? Where are the cutscenes? Why is the music so dang inconsistent and terrible? It's an insult to my game!

because it was ported by Makon based on the Rockman 8 engine, which sucked to begin with.

The port of Jurassic Boy 2 is alright though, I dunno if they had some outside help for that or what.

This topic has me thinking, it isn't totally outside the realm of possibility to make our own pirate port on Genesis of something. BasiEgaXorz is a pretty capable program to make Genesis games, and anyone with some programming experience could figure out how to use it and get something working. Granted it probably can't handle doing a complicated game with lots of physics like Sonic, but for stuff like Zelda, it'd work pretty well enough. in fact, anything that'd have to be toned back would just add more to the pirate quality =p

Just throwing that out there. I'm trying to work on a small project but am having issues finding good graphics, since it's a port of a PSX game and the original graphics just take up too much VRAM to be practical :p

Madou Monogatari... for the GB. Preferably by Vast Fame. Seeing either the normal or SNES style is fine with me...

Likewise, I'd like to see a port of that poorly translated Puyo Puyo "bootleg" (in quotes because if it is is up for debate... so if it is, BOOTLEGCEPTION) English version for the NES.

To make things more interesting, both have TERRIBLE translations, and have slight character design changes.

EDIT: Sorry for the bump... I should check the dates... some forums aren't so strict on this rule...
Title: Pirate ports you'd LOVE to see

This might not be what everyone's talking about, but for quite a while now, I've had a dream of having a better translated version of the original Famicom Disk System version of Legend Of Zelda. It's got so great glitches, better sound affects, and even as a kid, I knew that 'Buy something will ya!' was just WRONG! The NES version is great, but it just isn't the same!

I've dreamed about a Mega Drive port of Kirby Super Star, which would use the same sound engine as High Seas Havoc.

I remember reading a page a while back where an MD Kirby Super Star was very briefly mentioned. If such a "port" were to exist, I wonder how badly messed up it would be, considering Super Donkey Kong '99 was missing basic gameplay features from the original (such as rolling). I suppose it does vary on the group coding the whole thing though, but I imagine Kirby would be a pain to code, with all the copy abilities and everything.

BUY SOMETHIN' WILL YA! is pretty much a decent translation of the Japanese, even if it could probably use a comma and a question mark ... but yeah there are other lines in the game that are just poorly written, mistranslated, or odd cases where they replaced hints with completely different ones that were usually less helpful than the Japanese ones.

..uh and as a vague attempt to swing this back to on-topicness, it would be kinda cool if someone attempted to port/remake/demake/whatev one of the 3D Zelda games for an 8 or 16-bit system.

I'm surprised no one's tried to do a Famicom port of Link's Awakening. (Unless they did and I forgot)

I'd like to see them do something like Kirby's Dream Land 3 for the GBA, even though that'd be a huge stretch.

Bayonetta on NES

I really don't know how it would work, whether it be a crappy CONY Street Fighter hack or an RPG for some reason (like that one Tomb Raider bootleg on the NES)

Hummer Team should have ported Bubsy in Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind on the Famicom.

Maybe Meme Run a port of some of the Splatoon minigames on NES?

And a more obscure one, Purple Skittles (https://www.roblox.com/games/361737463/Purple-Skittles) (Could also be hacked into an undertale bootleg in the same way as Donkey Kong Country 4 with its dip switch)

Sorry for bumping this thread, but I think a FDS port of Mario Kart XXL Shin-Shin's Earthworm Jim 2 by the same developer will be fine.

I think we'd all get a good laugh if sachen had ported harvester to the  nes.
